Status: Applied for AOS (from F-1) and work permit on 04/17/06. Finished biometrics on about a couple of weeks after that.

I got an email from USCIS this morning which says:

"On April 26, 2006, we mailed a notice requesting additional evidence or information in this case. The notice explains in detail what additional material is needed. If you have questions about the notice, what is required, or if 30 days have passed and you have not received the notice. Please contact the service center where you submitted your application during business hours."

Does this mean that they might be missing something or could it be a request for an interview??? I am hoping it is an interview and not something that I might have missed to send or they want more information. Can anyone shed some light on this please?

Thanks.

It means that they have sent you an RFE (Request for Evidence). You might have forgotten to send something or they just want more supporting documents.

If you haven't received the notice by May 26 then be sure to contact them.

Thanks, I figured it was an RFE. Is there anyway to find out what I have missed without having to wait for the letter? I read somewhere that I might be able to call USCIS. Any one # the number before I google it?

Thanks

yup...no point in phoning, they won't tell you anything more than what the email tells you, or worse yet, they'll confuse you even more...That's why we call them the "Misinformation line".

I want to point out something though...It took us 10mths to receive our RFE! We had that same online notice you had, but USCIS never sent it to us. I kept calling USCIS to tell them to send it back, and they would say "Ok, i will send a request for it to be sent to you. If 30 days have passed and you have not received anything, give us a call back".. We went thru at least 9 "Ok, i will send a request and wait 30 days!" , until we said enough is enough and we went thru our congressman and the VERY SAME DAY THEY RECEIVED OUR LETTER, THEY CALLED US TO LET US KNOW THE INFORMATION USCIS WANTED FROM US!!

At one point in time, i was told by an immigration officer that i spoke to over the phone that my case should have been denied because 3mths have passed and i have not responded to their RFE..This tells me that nobody was even working on our case or even LOOKED at it for all this time to even think about denying us!

How incompetent! Just make sure you don't go thru what we did!

Another thing.. We had our interview 3wks ago and got RFE'd by the officer bcz the doctor forgot to check off the boxes for "Positive/Negative" for syphyllis and HIV.... I mean, couldnt they have RFE'd me a yr ago at the same time that they RFE'd me for my stupid birth certificate that i had already sent in initially with my AOS packet??!??!

All this told me that they were never working on our file.. How sad

Thanks for the heads up. I will be on top of it. Isnt it fast though for us to gotten an RFE this fast for my I-485. It has only been about a month and a half since I sent it. I was done with my biometrics within three weeks after I got my NOAs. Does anyone know how long it might take once I take care of this RFE which I have yet to recieve?

Thanks again

If you respond quickly it would probably not affect your timelines. You can check MSC for EAD and AP timelines, they seem to be fairly accurate. For the AOS interview, nobody knows -- depends on how busy your local office is.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail
