hi everyone,

I entered the US on march 19th and am getting married on June 7th. my I-94 expires on June 17th.

I am concerned about only having 10 days to file after I get married. I'm now thinking i should of waited to come here...

I was wondering if the marriage license is the same as the certificate? and, do you usually get the one you need on the day of marriage? or can it take weeks to come through after marriage? Also, can I complete 99% of the AOS paperwork before i get married ready to file immediatly?

if i can't or there could be a delay in getting my certificate then i will have to get married asap with a civil ceremony. ALso, how do you get a certified copy of your marriage certificate?

what I want to know really is: getting married and filing AOS just 10 days before I-94 expires - stupid or perfectly normal/possible?

thanks for any advice

Yes, you don't need to file before the I-94 expires, as long as you are married by then.

Just file as soon as possible when you have everything together, the sooner you file, the sooner you will have the benefit of a EAD, AP or even the greencard.

I needed to have my wedding certificate right away so I could get my military ID card which gave me health insurance,... so when we got married, we asked the justice of the peace who married us, to not send the license in herself but to give it to us. We went to the city hall the same day and got 3 copies of the certificate within 5 minutes.

I know I have heard that on here before but the immigration officer at POE told me I MUST file before it expires... so just didn't want to take any risks

I filed about 1.5 months after my i-94 expired and never had a problem, I just wouldn't wait for a really long time like a year or so.

another question about AOS - are the forms easy to fill out yourself or is a lawyer advisable?

also I did not get a ds-2035 that people are talking about after my medical, just a sheet saying which vaccines i needed, then i visited my doctor and had both vaccines done. and he gave me a record of it.

what will i need to do without this ds 2035 form?

You can try to take whatever proof for the vaccines you have to the cs. I would try though to get that form from the office where you had your medical exam initially.

I had the same problem, they never gave me that form when I had the medical. My dad ended up callling them for me and they faxed him the sheet and he sent it to me. It was really easy after that.

So try and get that form. Call or write to the doctors office, they are required to give a copy to the patient.

That officer gave you incorrect information. You just need to be married by the expiration or leave the country.

The AOS forms seemed a lot easier to do than the K-1, at least that is what I thought.
