Translate A Credit Card Bill?

This kind of thing drives me nuts.

I was in Coast Rica with my Russian fiancée and as evidence that we were there I want to include a copy of my credit card bill that shows dozens of charges in Costa Rican colons. That seems to be pretty solid evidence. But it also shows the names of the business, such as “Restaurante Y Marisq.Paso” and “Gessa Jumbo Guanacaste CR”, where Gessa Jumbo is the name of a super market and Guanacaste is the name of the region in Costa Rica. Do I need to get this translated? Really? It seems kind of like having to translate your birth certificate because it says “Los Angeles, California” on it.

Your credit card bill shows that you were there, not both of you. Dated photos together, a hotel receipt with both of your names on it would be more in the line of "evidence". The condition that you are trying to satisfy is that the 2 of you have met in person in the past 24 months. Your credit card bill does not do that.

If there a a number of occurances and *some* of them appear to be recognizable entities (e.g. Restaurante = Restaurant) then don't worry about it. They will understand the more common ones. But as Joey2 pointed out, it is only secondary evidence that you were there. Be sure to have as much primary evidence as you can and the secondary evidence won't matter much.

I disagree... the credit card statement does exactly what he needs it to do and that it puts him exactly in a certain place on a certain date. If he compliments that with similiar evidence putting his fiancee in the same place at the same time then he accomplishes exactly what the requirement of the USCIS is.

BTW, dated photos can be faked.

YMMV

Thanks all for responding. The credit card bill is just one piece of evidence. Here is what I will submit for this meeting:

My boarding pass

Fax I sent to a hotel in Costa Rica reserving a room for Yulia

The credit card bill

Yulia's boarding passes --- BTW: the boarding passes don't show the year.

3 photos of us together in a tropical setting.

That should be enough -- right?

USCIS is not going to willingly put together a puzzle of different events and dates to determine if 2 people were together or not! Anything can be faked, but a picture speaks a thousand words. Photos together have worked for all of us here!

The highlighted above is really not accurate.... Putting a puzzle together is exactly what all of us attempt to do when we submit the evidence of meeting.... The USCIS on a daily basis interprets these puzzle pieces. The better job we do with the puzzle the easier tiem the adudicator will have.

YMMV
