DECLARATION OF MEETING

ON APRIL 12, 2006, I FLEW FROM (MY HOMETOWN) USA, TO MY FIANCE'S, ( FIANCES NAME) , HOME COUNTRY OF NIGERIA, IN THE CONTRIES CAPITAL STATE OF ABUJA, TO MEET HIM FOR THE FIRST TIME IN PERSON. I SPENT 8 DAYS AND 7 NIGHTS WITH HIM THERE. WE LODGED AT THE CRYSTAL PALACE HOTEL IN GARKI. WHILE THERE, WE HAD MANY OUTTINGS IN WHICH WE ENJOYED BEAUTIFUL EVENING WALKS TOGETHER AND LEISURELY DAYS IN THE LOCAL PARK. ALSO WE VISITED AND SHOPPED THE LOCAL MARKET THERE IN GARKI.

ALSO WHILE THERE, I HAD THE HONOR AND PLEASURE OF MEETING SOME OF HIS FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS TOO. THIS WAS THE BEST AND MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF MY LIFE SO FAR, GETTING TO COME FACE-FACE WITH MY LOVE (HIS FIRST NAME) , AND MEETING HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS .

THIS MEETING AND VISIT ONLY RECONFIRMED WHAT WE ALREADY KNEW IN OUR HEARTS LONG BEFORE OUR PHYSICAL MEETING, THAT OUR LOVE IS STEADFAST AND WE DESIRE TO BE TOGETHER PHYSICALLY AND PERMANTELY. OUR DESIRE TO BE BONDED TOGETHER IN MARRIAGE AS HUSBAND AND WIFE IS A DAY WE BOTH LOOK FORWARD TO WITH OUR WHOLE HEARTS AND UNWAVERING LOVE FOR EACH OTHER.

SINCERELY,

SINCERELY,

Is this in response to the question asking you to describe the circumstances by which you met? If so, then the content and context needs to be more along the lines of, "we met online and chatted...." etc.

Otherwise-

Looks fine. Mine was much more literal than yours and less the lovey-dovey stuff but yours will suffice to get the point across.

Perhaps you shouldn't use all capital letters, though.....

Hi thanks for your quick response here. I'm a bit confused now.lol, is monday you know. But i think what i'm asking here is when i write the letter of meeting, pertaining to question 18, is this suspossed to be like you said "we met online, emailed , phone talks etc," and all leading up to our physical meeting with submitted evidence?

thanks

sklind,

Similar to what Kaydee wrote, you're long on irrelevant mush and short on relevant information.

Looking ahead to the visa interview, I saw an interesting comment on the Usenet AVUM-B newsgroup yesterday that will be relevant to your situation. To paraphrase, 'the continuum on levels of visa fraud for the consulates is low fraud - medium fraud - high fraud - Nigeria'. Have you consulted with an immigration attorney who practices in Nigeria or who has experience with Nigeria?

Your letter is OK as far as I can see - I only used one line so I used "Just the facts" approach. However, don't forget to include pictures of you two together - They do make a big difference in my opinion. Good Luck

Your letter is missing a key ingredient -- people have been RFE'ed for not including a bit about how/where/when you first started your relationship (obviously for you it was online?). And I am with the others, you may want to cut down on the flowery bits. :)

Also, since you mentioned meeting some of his family, a picture of that meeting (if you have it) would be an excellent thing to include with your application.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all input on my topic. I appreciate it soo much.

I have rewritten my declaration of meeting letter and cut out all mushy info and stuck with basics of our meeting online, and from there on up to our first face-face meeting. I also do have pics with my fiance's brother and with his coousin that i will submit as evidence, along with boarding passes, a few emails i chose, phone bills etc. Am only inclosing a few of each.

I'm really dishearted now because of one reply about nigerian visa scams they view on tv yesterday. I'm soo worried now more than ever that the k-1 will be denied. As for hiring an attorney in nigeria, neither my fiance or myself have money to fund this. What do we do now?

thanks,

sklind

sklind,

Note that I suggested consultation, I did not suggest hiring. Although, after reading the Administrative Review threads here on VJ and having the consultation, you may decide to hire.

Rhetorical question - if you don't have the money to retain an immigration attorney do you really have the money for life after immigration?

The relationship we assume is legitimate, so you do not need to worry too much. Put the best evidence you have into your petition...without going overboard.

And for the interview, have as much supporting documentation to show a real and current relationship. The K1 is a stressful process no matter what country is involved, but try not to be too worried, or you will drive yourself crazy throughout the process!

Best of Luck

Yodrak

I think you meant well Yodrak, but that was kinda mean. There's an attorney up here that charges $1500 just for basic handling of the I-129 and another $2000 for the AOS. And that's if there are no issues. Lawyers ain't cheap.

rebeccajo,

True, lawyer's do not come cheap. But we're talking here about what most people would say is the most important thing in their life are we not? If that doesn't rate funding priority what does? (Although the tune often changes after a few years of marriage, sometimes sooner.)

For what it's worth, in this particular instance the issue of concern is the visa application - not the petition, not AOS.

Attn: Sklind

Yodrak and others.

Hi everyone,

I have been away from this website for long time. Sklind, your declaration on is fine but you have to explain more how you met and started communication, before the actual physical meeting. I have my post here on our journey through the whole process. So you will be fine when you add the online meetings.

However, I wish to comment on Yodrak suggestion of retaining an attorney in Nigeria. That is totally irrelevant and may even jeopardise your case. Nigeria embassy lay more emphasis on your personal ability to proof your case rather than through an attorney.

Because, the embassy is concerned with your safety and how truthful is the fiance intention to marry you. A lawyer cannot proof that its him(the Nigeria fiance) and not even you. Adjudicating Officer will strive to find this fact of his intention during the interview. You cannot not proof what is in his heart. My dear it is difficult for you to do that. Of course the meeting and the joy and witness will be there when you arrived Nigeria. But what is in the heart? You cannot uncover until long time later.

I say this because its very sad how my country folk behave all in the craze for a GC! After my arrival here other readers of this site have followed my way. I received emails and phone calls offering advises. About three couples succeeded. But can you believe that out of these three others. I am the only one still trully in marriage till date? Those others marriages have broken up. ......the sunny&ruthan, rotimis, afrodikes and so on. Make a research. I am not trying to expose anyone but....the truth has to be told. If he is truly the one for you good luck. Getting over here is one thing and staying in marriage truthfully is another. Good luck to you. Please you don't need any lawyer.

I'm not advocating attorneys, but I think Yodrak was wise to remind the OP that Nigeria is considered a high fraud area and, as such, to be prepared for each and every application is gone over with more scrutiny. You make a valid point ~ the couple will be left to their own devices to demonstrate in behaviour and evidence that the relationship is genuine and no attorney can supplement his/her servoices for that particular event in the visa process. Howrever, the submission of paperwork, comprehensively compiled, carefully reviewed to avoid anything that could cause a second look, and to provide enough to corroborate validity yet not appear to be too overwhelming [sometimes, yes, less is more ;) ], to review language used in evidences to be provided etcetera would be where an attorney can be of critical importance.
