When filing out the I-129F form, it asks for question number 10 to provide the US citiens birth certficate number, issue date and city/state of issue.

my partners birth cert was issued in NJ in 1981, there is no birth certificate number on it (it is the original). We have looked front and back.

What should we do?

We rang the USCIS customer service they said that they dont have any information to provide us!

You don't have to provide that information if your fiance was born in the U.S. you simply put an X beside "Birth in the U.S." and leave the rest.

Check out the example form Here.

Adding that information is for people who became citizens through naturalization.

If your fiance wasn't born in the U.S. I'm not quite sure....I'm sure someone will have more information for you.

Best of luck!! :)

Steve and Amara - I am having the same problem with my own birth certificate, also from NJ in the early 80's. I've already sent my I-129F form, and I just wrote "no number" in question 10. Did you ever run into problems over this, or did your process go smoothly?

Thank you.
