Pin this thread. I love it:)

windchimes are a wicked idea.

My sil packed random things as the family back in Pali is sooooooo biiiiigggg. But some of the things she packed was perfumes (for ppl she knew like her parents) and makeup for the women. She packed clothes for the kids....I think barbie dolls too.

But yeah in the land of arabic coffees, believe it or not, my husband's only request to me was to bring Folgers coffee with creamer, lol So I did and it was a huge hit. I've never heard people get so excited about coffee before.....they were so cute....all the men are speaking arabic and all I could hear was nescafe, nescafe, nescafe.......I guess they think every coffee is called nescafe since they even call arabic coffee that too:)

For girls try makeup or sunscreen or anything that could be way expensive or different over there. In Jordan they have lots of cheap makeup-- it's also really nasty and often times filled with lead, etc. American make-up is really cool :) Also sunscreen is really expensive over there and the girls love it. I brought stuff rfom Bath and Body works and that was a great hit.

No idea about men. Men are too hard to shop for!

ETA cameras, etc are also good if they are much more expensive over there. The problem though with most electronics is the differing electrical systems.

I'll second the make-up and sunscreen. Other things I took that I meant to use myself, but ended up as gifts were: Orbit gum (doesn't stick to dental work..big hit with future mother in law..lol), Bubble yum for the kids, microwave popcorn, child proof Bic lighters, American Marlboros.

I wouldn't worry too much about buying them stuff that they don't have there. Just the fact that you bought it and carried it across the world for them will hold weight.

Yep, I brought Mascara (as requested) heh heh .. I agree that, its not what you bring or if its available there.. its that you thought to give. I brought some pretty kitchen towels for grandma and lotion/bath stuff for the girls(aunts).

Unique idea.... A set of pretty placemats? These are good for having company over.. you can place them on the floor (in place of newspaper or whatever is preferred or used in the family). I had intentions of this and just didnt get around to finding any I liked :)

You could always ask, if theres anything you can bring.

Oh ya, and American cigs... good god, they were a hit! lol That reminds me, I should send some for my favorite uncle! lol

Lisa

Actually, plants seeds are a good idea also.

Also, a hummingbird feeder is a nice gift.

Bulbs! Oh my, Im sending some to grandma asap.. thanks :)

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Just check the import laws for Iran and seeds/live plants before you go over there with them. Certain countries have import restrictions and some require documentation.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

My in-laws are now addicted to American Ibuprofen--we also have brought over other over-the-counter medicines not available in Morocco.

My husband's brothers love t-shirts, baseball hats and jeans from here--they have tons of fake name-brand stuff there, but they look different than American clothes. Especially popular: hip hop clothes--they are not available there (or are really ugly--just look at videos of hip-hop artists from MENA countries--they need makeovers!).

::There’s a laugh in my eyes::

There’s a waltz in my walk

And it’s been such a long time

Since there was hope in my talk

If you never knew

What it is that’s new.. it’s you

‘Cause when your hands are in mine

You set a fire that everyone can see

And it’s burning away

Every bad memory

To tell you the truth

If it’s something new.. baby it’s you

It’s you in the morning

It’s you in the night

A beautiful angel came down

To light up my life

The world’s a different place

Where nothing’s too hard to say

And nothing’s too hard to do

Never too much to go through

To tell you the truth

Everything that’s new.. baby it’s you

It’s you in the morning

It’s you in the night

A beautiful angel came down

To light up my life

My life, my life

Ohh

So if I get to grow old (oh if I get to grow old)

With many years behind me (many years behind me)

There’s only one thing I want (aahh)

One thing I need beside me

For all that you are

For everything you do

For all that you’ve done

Just for showing me the truth

My sister in laws always want MAC makeup and victorias secret. the latest request was SPANX.

My brother in laws always want New Balance sneakers and electronic gadgets.

We make them fund all of those sorts of gifts though. The only think we will fund at this point is gifts for children within reason, otherwise it gets out of hand.

Oh gosh, i'd get pissed if they always expected stuff from me when Its suppose to be a family visit!! I've never brought stuff from usa to there only for my grandma

Btw I'm sorry Nutty you have some low morale people comming on here posting nonsense when they know Iran holds alot of respect in those kind of things. I wish alot of parents would have taught these adults what manners and class was. <_< you can report me too just thinking about it makes me cry :rolleyes:

These days, Morocco has almost everything I can find here. Still, gummy bears, sugar babies, Listerine breath strips, lip balm, fabric shavers, american jeans, press on tattoos, fragrance samples, OTC medicines, and portable hand sanitizers have all been hits with family. I find that small conveniences are great gifts, although I did buy my MIL a washing machine last time I was there.

Are there hummingbirds in Iran? I thought they were only found in the Americas.
