Flight + Layover After Visa is Received in Peru

I was wondering if anyone can tell me approximately how much time it takes to get the visa stamp in a Peruvian passport after the interview (assuming that everything goes well). I am in the process of trying to book flights for my fiance and I to return to JFK and am curious about that.

Also, and more importantly because of the outrageous prices for flights these days, does anyone know if a visa for Mexico is required for a layover in Mexico City (we will not be leaving the airport)? I know that I do not need a visa, but just wondering if my fiance would ! Thanks in advance!

if interview is on a Monday, by Wed you should have it unless something goes wrong. In my case, i booked a flight for Fri march 17th. Our interview went well and we expected the passport by WED BUT BUT BUT the embassy said they needed to do the fingerprints again on Tuesday. Something happened that it did not go through correctly on thier digital machine. So now the passport was delayed until thurs. THURS AND FRIDAY WERE HOLIDAYS! MY WIFE got her passport on MONDAY! Meaning i had to rebook the flight and pay $500 bucks MORE!! Originally i had paid $580 + $500, do the math! Make sure you get the flight enough time ahead so you have to go through what i went! GL!!

Is it possible to find another flight connecting in a different country, let's say Panama or Costa Rica?

Even when the delta web site says a transit visa is not needed. For what I know, when nationals of central america and some south america countries take conection flights in Mexico without a visa they are held in a room and sometimes in the same room with illegal immigrants. I read that the delta says "under the airline custody", but what happened to one of my co-workers and my best friend while traveling to Europe with a layover in Mexico was completely different, they were held in a small room with a guard on the door who walked them to their gate, according to them it was not a pleasant experience!

Make sure you get the right info. from the Consulate of Mexico in Peru, if you read carefully even the delta website says so:

This search engine and database is provided and managed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). You may wish to double-check foreign entry requirements by contacting your local Embassy or Consulate.
