True...except for white people that are clearly ate up with their own white guilt and self hatred for their own people. They will continue to habitually criticize and find nothing good as some sort of misguided atonement. Along with rage towards people that don't buy into their take on the world as they see it.

As I stated back on the first or second page of this thread...the group mentioned in the original post are clearly militants. They are par with the Black Panthers and the Azatlanists. No...these sort of groups are radical militants and are not constructive means of being proud of one's people.

Fair enough. But why is the term synonymous with these people - and why are such events overtaken by them.

What you guys seem to be asking for is some sort of mainstream politically correct (ironically enough) celebration that simply doesn't exist. It doesn't exist because there isn't a wide demand for it. As I say - I wonder how a majority group would feel about promoting itself through the creation of an amorphous, artificial, cultural construct when many people find it sufficient to identify with and celebrate their more meaningful German/Irish/Italian/Hungarian (or what have you) heritage.

All would've been so much simpler if white folks would just simply denounce white supremacy, racist movements for what they are and in the process celebrate white pride in the same light as human pride and move on with being human just like everyone else. That would make all this silly discussion about skirting the issue in order to feel the need to protect one's "racial background" out of avoidance of a false construct of guilt for very real history.

Perhaps you're right. I think the whole institution of "racial categories" is unnecessary and introduces more problems than it's worth.

If someone was born in the U.S. (or to American parents), then they are American. It doesn't matter what color, ethnic origin or religion they are -- they're still American! Why do we even need such terms to divide us?

As I understand it, the very idea behind the civil rights movement was to gain equal rights. How can any group ever hope to gain equality or acceptance if they continually demand it, yet insist on remaining a separate entity as well? It simply doesn't work that way.

Morgan Freeman is actually a very smart guy and has the right idea. Unfortunately, I can easily imagine his words getting twisted by several prominent "leaders of the black community" in which Freeman is made out to be nothing more than some sort of "Uncle Tom."
