I was filling out the DS-230 fillable form when I noticed that on the IV Processing Fee Bill they mention that when I receive my DS-230 form, not to use the downloaded computer forms but return the original application. I'm just curious if anyone has sent the downloaded computer forms. Thanks!

I filled up the original DS230 form that they sent me and send it back to them. I did not sent any fillable forms as in their instructions they wanted you to send the original form.

They say that with the I-864 also. But you can do the fillable ones like you were talking about. I think the main reason for this is you might find an out dated version on the internet or something of this sort. It helps cause I had my husband make extra copies just incase he marked something wrong we didnt have to wait a long time to fix it.

I filled and sent out the downloaded forms. And they were accepted without any problems.. As long as you have an updated version of the forms, you should be fine....

I believe the reason they say not to use downloadable computer forms is to stop people using outdated forms erroneously, which many sites do have. I have not noted anyone having their application returned because it is downloaded. Write your case number clearly in the top right hand corner of each page. When you recieve the original DS-230 from NVC it will come with a cover sheet with a barcode. Use this cover sheet with the previously completed DS-230 and submit to NVC along with any requested documents according to the country/embassy of the beneficiary (now the applicant)

The same will apply for the I-864 that the USC will complete.

Thanks everyone. Another question... I know that you have to put your case number on all documents that you send, does that include your original documents? (birth certificate etc.)

Yes, top right corner, except you are only required to send in photocopies of birth certificates etc now. Originals will need to be on hand for the interview.

Thanks for the info. Though I will call the NVC about sending the photocopies because in my instructions it says I have to send the originals and then they would give them back to me at the interview.

I call NVC on Friday, and the lady told me I had to send my original documents and that I would get them back at the interview.

Did you call the Montreal Consulate? (that's where I'm going through)....I filled my DS-230 online and so far I haven't heard any problem. I was talking to someone there on Thursday and I should find out within 3 weeks my Interview date. Also, the only papers I had to send in were the DS-230 and the checklist. I have to bring photocopies of all my originals but I also have to have my originals with me for them to see at the Interview. Unless they changed the rules in the past month :unsure: .................{{{HUGS}}}

PS.......I just realized you weren't going through a K1, so it's probably different for your visa.....sorry :whistle:

I am doing a CR1 so I don't need to call the Montreal Consulate. I have to send my documents to the NVC. As I understand it, the NVC gives me the interview date. I was told to send the originals but I know that with the K1 visa you send copies. My mom is doing the K1 and has her interview on the 21st. Good Luck to you :)
