My fiance opened the Sealed Packet!!!!

Has anyone ever opened the sealed packet that is to be given to the Immigration officer at the POE??? My fiance received his visa today in the mail and before I could remind him not to open the package, he had already done so. It contains all of the copies of our file basically. I am really freaked out that this will affect his experience at POE. Has anyone ever had this happen before?? I would contact the Embassy, but they can't send a new packet because it is all of our paperwork. I am so aggravated that this happened, and he just said "what can we do about it now"?

I've always wondered what I would have done if Mags had opened that. Half the time I think I would have called it a day, as I don't think I'd want to be with someone dense enough to open the packet that isn't supposed to be opened.

It's been done many times before. You have to send it back and have it "resealed". Failure to do so will result in no visa for you.

You're going to have to return to the USEM and have them re-package it.

Thanks to both of you for your answers! I have been so stressed lately, and this is the last thing that needed to happen! Sounds like it should be easy enough to send it back to the embassy for repackaging. Raf isn't dense it's just that I am a bit of a control freak and I have handled all of the paperwork for this entire process. His interview was 3 weeks ago and he doesn't remember things I told him yesterday. No harm no foul! Thanks for your help!!

It appears (by doing some searching through here) that some consulates actually charge the visa fee again for this visa service...and others do not. Some will let you send it in and others will ask you to make another appointment. You will need to call the USEM where it was issued to find out what you folks need to do there.

I hope it's simple, quick and cheap! We all make mistakes.

yes - it's disgraceful that the only warning you get is the huge big stamp across it saying 'do not open this envelope'
