Hey guys,

I'm having my medical in London on the 28th of March. Today i had vaccinations done, and aparently i have wonderful side-effects of varicella and HIB. :( I feel like i have a terrible cold. Does anyone know if it's gonna interfere with my medical in any way? :help:

Thanks

I don't think so. If they will find some trouble due to, you can argue it. You have nice day.

same thing happened to me - I felt absolutely awful for my medical, and while I went on to work afterwards, I ended up going home and going to bed :(

didn't make any difference at the medical, however; they barely even mentioned it :)

I, however, am still not better, though I would imagine I now just have a normal cold as my medical was back in January ;)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

Today i had vaccinations done, and aparently i have wonderful side-effects of varicella and HIB.

Eek :(

I've got an appointment booked next week to see my local GP to have the relevant jabs, not really looking forward to that. The sheet I printed out from the US Embassy in London suggested that Varicella wasn't available in the UK though? I'm sure I've had chicken pox but it isn't recorded on my medical records unfortunately.

I got it through private travel clinic. It's costly, but they do it. I had my medical today and turns out i don't even need half of the shots. :( So check the ones u need for sure, for your age and stuff. Because private hospitals will even give u a shot of cyanide without even asking, as long as u pay for it :D

Yeah, I've checked through the list and I think I need Td/Tdap, MMR and Varicella. I'll just give the print out to the nurse though, she'll probably know what the score is.

Looks like those are the right ones.

The biggest confusion is with HPV shot. It's 120 pounds here. I decided not to do it now, cause it's a 6 months vaccine. U have one, then one in 2 months and one in 6. So that would mean that i pay here and would have to pay again in america to get the last one. So i decided to do it there.

obviously one person's experience is no guarantee of another's, but -

at my medical they just asked me if I'd had chicken pox (I have), and made a note of it on my file; I didn't have to show a medical record to prove it (which was good since all my records are in Australia ;) )

there's no need to go to a private travel clinic and pay lots of money, either - I got MMR and DT on the NHS, so they cost me nothing :)

I got MMR on the NHS too, but they wouldn't do Varicella or HIB on NHS, so i had to go private. Not to mention that later i found out that i didn't need bloody HIB i paid 50 pounds for, because it's not age appropriate anymore. :bonk:

what a pain! there's a handy little checklist somewhere - I can never find it when I want it - which arranges all the vaccinations in rows, and the ages in columns, so you can see pretty easily what you need... I knew I didn't need any more than the ones I got (plus I knew that varicella isn't available here in the UK, so I was hoping they'd believe me about having chicken pox)

even so - I had German Measles as a kid, and then a rubella injection aged 13, and now I've had another shot of it... had mumps as well, and now the shot for it; it seems a bit like overkill ;)

Yes the embassy site is a bit of a maze, but here's the page with the vaccination list:

http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/iv/medexam.html

and here's the one to tell which of those vaccinations you need:

http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/...ccinechart.html

From trying to get more info about the HPV I found something on the USCIS website (i can't remember where) that chicken pox is the only disease that the medical examiner can accept is not neccessary through an oral history. All the others have to be documented. So when they ask you, as long as you tell them that you had chicken pox you're fine.

Hi

What if you have never had chicken pox? Could you fail the interview?

No, you wouldn't fail, you just may have to have the vaccine at the medical, if that's what the doctor decides.

Their price list says that it's 60GBP :http://www.visamedicals.info/us-price.asp

so if you find it cheaper elsewhere you could get it beforehand, but I'm not 100% sure you would have to have it. It says on the vaccine chart that I linked above that it's not available in the UK so they might let you off.

 Okay, so they'll accept my word for it that I've had chickenpox (had it in my early 20's) but won't accept that I've had both mumps and rubella in childhood because I don't have documentation to prove it? I've already been immunised against measles and rubella (both initial vaccines and a booster shot) and really don't want to have a totally unnecessary (medically at least) vaccination against a disease I've already had *sighs*

Is there any way to check this prior to the interview?
