In other news, husband and I are going to a workshop on Awakening the Heart and Soul in a week. It took some prodding, but I've finally convinced my husband to join me. It's an emphasis on Islamic spirituality, sharia and haqiqa, and relationships. (F)

Ohhhh wow. I'm so jealous. Mohammed would just eat that. That really sounds like a wonderful workshop. Would you mind telling me about it after you go? I'm very curious!

I thought I would bump up a more positive thread.

My husband volunteered at an assistance center this morning. Coming from a country where "need" is quite different, he was surprised to find young abled-bodied people with cars seeking assistance.

I am off to have one of my few remaining meetings with my Brownies. Hope everyone has a good evening.

Any more recipes to share? Cake is a big hit here (thanks for the coconut cake recipe MK  ).

I'm hoping that they'll give us some notes or something, and then I can scan them in inshaAllah. My husband isn't too fond of tasawwuf (aka sufism), so it's a huge victory that he's agreed to go. The things one does for love :luv:

The lady who is organizing the day is part of the Shadhiliyya tariqa. I've done dhikr with them, but haven't made bayah (an oath, to officially join and become a murid, student) to the Sheikh.

If you're interested in some hardcore sufi stuff (no goofy soofi pretend stuff), Sheikh Zulfiqar Ahmad's site has up some of his sermons and writings that I've found very helpful.

I have to write a six page paper on my career choice for my co-op class. Here's the thing after I graduate with my degree I plan on becoming a : [/b] stay at home mommy

So writing this paper is really pointless ... but VJ has entertained me along the way.

Can't I just write it on becoming a stay at home mommy ?

Let's see :

Pay : A warm feeling in your heart everytime your child smiles

Job Description : change diapers, cook, wipe noses, taxi cab, be a good wife, etc.

Work enviornment : my home

Skills required : the ability to get pregnant and have a child ... cuz if that doesn't happen then I cant have my dream job

Licencing : Well it's not a licence .. but we need that visa cuz if we don't get that we'll never get to the skills required section ....

 OK back to my real homework ...

Reunited and it feels so good ....

I'll post more details of our morning in biometrics in a new thread so everyone on VJ can see it so I'll just skim over here.

We were in and out there so by 8:33 our morning was ours. Abdel drank a pepsi when we left, so instead of stopping at a state park to study for a while on the way home as I had planned we ended up stoping for some Pepcid-AC and coming straight home. His tummy just can't handle soft drinks early in the day.

For lunch we were back in Savannah so we stopped at Hercules Grill and shared a Gyro Wrap. I had told Abdel I thought it was Schawarma, and sure enough it was. We even saw the cooking machine for it when we looked over the counter into the kitchen. It's good to know I can find food here that is at least close to what he had back home. The Moroccan restaurant here is overpriced and not very good.

We came home and took a nap, then I studied for 4 hours for my final. When I got to class the rest of my classmates informed me that the professor had e-mailed out a study guide. I got to look at it for about 1 minute before the professor came in and passed out exams. Needless to say I was furious. The last thing I had done last class was remind him to make sure that he had everyone's e-mail address on the list if he was going to send the study guide out that way.

What made me really really mad was that he had asked me about a job where I worked and had e-mailed his resume to me to send to the hiring manager. When I told him to make sure everyone was on the list he told me not to worry, he had my e-mail. Yeah, I guess he did if it meant getting a job!

I was so mad I couldn't really focus on the exam. I was really mad because it was comprehensive, and 12 chapters of studying. The study guide listed several items that specifically wouldn't be on the test, and one of them was the entire last chapter I read. I was even more mad because I had elected to skip the second exam (an option he gave us) because I was out with the flu for a class period that was on that exam, and I didn't feel prepared. That made tonight's exam worth 55% of my grade.

Ok, enough venting, thanks for listening if you didn't fall asleep or move on during my ranting.

Actually, today was great on the immigration side, and the drive to Charleston last night was awesome, so I guess I need to just forget about the hour from 6 to 7 PM tonight until I see my exam results.

Please don't stop this thread. I may not post until later in the day, but I really do enjoy getting to know each of you better.
