Thanks Julie!

Yeah, I just lightly toss the potatoes with the already crumbled goat cheese right before serving. It's a nice treat. I LOVE goat cheese.

What's sepia?

Goats cheese is wonderful - at my one of my favourite cafes they serve rocket salad with fried parma ham/goats cheese parcels...it's divine. Oh how I love food.

Sepia is squid :) It gives the rice the aromatic fish flavour - you sautee it with a diced tomato, onion and garlic and then add the uncooked rice and fry it for a bit before you add a glass of white wine followed by the fish broth.

I made scallops today but Charles doesn't eat it (I didn't know), because he doesn't like fish that looks like a ball

Anyway, I wound up eating it all, which was like a cup worth of fish. I thought it was too expensive to be so little of it and doesn't taste that good, so I'm not cooking scallops again, maybe never again.

Tomorrow is steak day. There's no way I can go wrong with that.

awww too bad! we should make a poll to see how many people actually like scallops. I've come across quite a few people who don't like them. it's a shame because I think they're so yummy. then again lots of people think that curry is yummy and I find it evil!

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

well they don't have a strong flavor that people will dislike. I think it's like that thing, squid, calamari most people dislike, but I think they're pretty good.

i don't do seafood...

well, unless you count the battered kind.. I actually had some battered fish from a box the other day... it was pretty good though and I did make homemade tartar sauce.. I found a good simple recipe for it... about 1/4 cup of relish, 1/2 cup of mayo, 1/2 tsp of mustard and a 1/4 tsp lemon juice...

I made a Paella today - test run for Grandma's 83rd next Saturday.

2388975437_39fa61b6ea.jpg

I forgot to add the bottle of white wine I bought...a lovely Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand (from my husband's home town Blenheim)

The fish is monkfish (says the dictionary), the white bit on the plate is Sepia - the mussles are called cockles, says my dictionary. We call them Almejas in Spain. Other than that you can see the Italian aborio rice, Iranian safron and Dutch fish stock cubes (you can't get them in here, so I had to go to the market hall and buy Dutch ones) as well as onion, garlic, a tin of peas, red pepper, lemon and snow peas.

And that's the result. The fish could have needed a little more salt, other than that it was fine.

omg I absolutely LOVE paella. I never tried to cook it, probably never will since Charles has a problem with most food. Julie, I can give you a recipe of this brazilian dish that contains coconut milk, fish, shrimp, bell pepper and dende oil. I think you'll like it (if you find dende oil, which is palm oil).

Oh yes, please - that sounds good. I am sure I can get dende oil at the latino place at the markets, I'll check next week. Do you also have a recipe for Banana da terra? I would really like to give it a try. My Colombian friend just fries it and it's good, but there must be more you can do with it.
