I tried that with neil and then we found out he is allergic to seafood. make sure hubster isn't allergic

nah, he's not allergic. he's tried it several times, because he think it looks good and knows it can be good for you.... kinda like me with broccoli...I know it's good for me, but hate it. But I'll force it down just to get the nutrients... lol

You could reduce the fish content in this fish cakes recipie, and tell him that it's just potato cakes, and put lots of pepper and maybe some herbs in it.

I tricked my 6 year old cousin in to eating cabbage, cos I told him it was special cabbage that actually tasted like meat. The cabbage had been cooked with bacon, so did actually taste meaty. He loved it! I couldn't convince his twin brother though, he's the sceptic of the family!

So Julia, you have the option of French, German, Spanish AND Mexican :devil:food!!

:D So true!! But I have to wait until end of the year for some authentic Mexican recipes - Pedro and I go to Mexico to meet the parents and I am sure his Mom is going to give me an introduction to Mexican food. The only Mexican food I know are the tex mex burritos, tacos etc. (still yum though!).

We usually only cook Spanish and German food though. So yesterday I went to Mom's house and she made a German speciality called Matjes, a marinated herring, which she mixes into sour cream with apples and onions (and a bay leave and pepper corns) and let's it marinate over night. We ate it with beet root salad (just oil/ vinegar and onions) and potatoes.

Here you can see the fish better

For desert she made a Spanish strudel. She bought puff pastry and put a layer of cabello de angel (a pumpkin jam) on it, rolled it up and sprinkled it with Piñones, I think they are called pine tree seeds in English.

We had such a good day as well, Grandma came over as well and we drank lots of champagne with strawberries, ate jamon serrano, manchego and olives with chili for starters, while sitting in the kitchen, watching my Mom cooking. After lunch, we took a nap (Mom and I fell asleep on the sofa, while Grandma was talking hahahaha) and then we watched Spain play Sweden, cheering for the Spanish team of course. Mom even has a Spanish flag on her balcony and surprisingly she knows all the palyers of the Spanish team.

Nothing to be jealous of, really :) It's just higher quality dry sparkling wine, not real champagne :P We just put cut up strawberries in a regular glas and top it up with the sparkling wine. Here's my abuelita, going for the strawberries (just showing the pic to show her off - she's 83 and still looks so good!)

it was a typical dish from your SO country.

I made chicken pie with massa podre (it's a brazilian style dough that is just divine, a pastry crust is made with a higher proportion of fat and contains no raising agent to make it rise and expand during baking). The filling had chicken breast, black olives, hearts of palms, tomatoes, onions, garlic, pepper, chives, parsley, chicken bouillon and one more ingredient I can't say.

It was the first time ever I try this massa podre and it didn't come out perfectly. But the taste was amazing, I'm sure next time I'll get to the point where it'll be easier to handle and look better.

and here's the dough.

I haven't gotten around to making mine yet. I have the ingredients for salsa de puerco but haven't had time to cook it. I was hoping I could make it tonight but my aunt and uncle are coming over after work so I probably won't. I did make a Mexican chocolate layer cake that could qualify also but didn't take a picture of it.

Edited to say: I don't have any suggestions either.
