(Sorry, I seem to be in touch w/ my inner adolescent male today.)

LOL! You're a NUT! Just kidding.... Your post always seem to put a smile on my face..Back to the topic; I heard some negative things, but as I told the skeptics "I'm a big boy and no one, including my family is going to tell me who I can Love or who I can't. Life is way too short to be alone and unloved."

I am so sick and tired of hearing "Why couldn't you have found yourself a nice American man" and "I'm tired of foriegners taking all of the American women" and "He just wants a green card." How many of you have heard this during your visa journey ? How do you handle these annoying comments ?

I'd tell 'em to suck my left nut.

actually, you need to finish that up with the rest of the saying

"...and make my right one jealous."

I figured some class act would come along and provide the second verse. ;)

i'm not US citizen so i don't really know how i react but being a greencard holder if one of my husband's friends, family and other associated with him tell me this "you just want greencard" i would annoy that person(we'll see how i react). so far i didn't hear anything yet nor to my husband.

i'm filipina but i've never had relationship with my kind because i'm too high maintenance  ..if my hubby is filipino i maybe dead long time ago being disrespectful.

i'm sorry you're little bit bothered. i think you should say "let me worry about it" when they'll say "he wants greencard"

hugss tight to you (F)

Simply ask them to stop talking from their egos (feelings of superiority) and realize that you did not do this to hurt them in any way.

You are just living your life in the best way possible for you...this has nothing to do with any one else's life, nor opinions.

Stay away from people who are being hurtful for some sadistic pleasure.

Bleh.

I think that if I were to receive such comments regularly I'd soon start playing along with them - 'oh, I know, but how else am I going to get a man?' 'Of course he wants the green card, but he's paying me a hefty sum to get it.' 'I see myself as a ministering angel to these poor foreign men; if I can help just one escape his destitute country, then I'll feel I've done my duty'.

Fortunately Alex's friends and family are very supporting of his relationship with me (not to mention an English accent can go a long way!) :hehe:

I think exaggerating with humour might be the best approach. As a Canadian, I was asked by acquaintances why I was marrying an American rather than a Canadian. I just laughed and said 'I have already tried all of the good ones here and felt it was time to expand my horizons" or "All the good ones are already taken by people like you - and you didn't want to share" or my favourite, "It's part of my secret plot on behalf of the Canadian Government to take over the US - one person at a time. They'll never suspect a Canadian!".

Try to have fun with it; become ridiculous; the questions don't require a serious answer from you. This is the person who love ; you love each other - what more needs to be explained?

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Sad to say, its hard to have family that is not supportive to what we are doing or what makes us happy. They might be correct cause there's a lot of opportunists then break your heart when they get what they want, but even if American or foreign, you should always be ware of what they really after.

Once he gets here and they meet him, they will all forget they ever said that. Just hang in there.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Have I ever heard any negative remarks, let me see, being that my ex-husband is a retired naval aviator, he was desert storm. Been all over the middle east and Africa, I remember him telling me about Egypt, Cairo, and just listening, never thinking I would ever see that place. I was also military, lived most of my life on military bases all over the world, never in a million years did I ever think I would marry a foreigner, I never even thought I could marry a regular civilian man. To my family, big on the American pride stuff, so ya think my family was thrilled when they found out I married an Arab. Oh the love was pouring baby.

I find it absolutely ridiculous and I would tell them to Kiss my @SS!! Most of us on VJ have already dated American men and women did not find what we were looking for. Why should we limit ourselves to the U.S. only???

My family was a little apprehensive when I told them I was marrying someone from another country but they KNOW ME and they know I would never make this kind of commitment without thinking about it and weighing all options. They love my husband and are very supportive. (Mom is going to Egypt with me for 2 weeks in May)

Who cares what anyone else thinks?

LOVE IS UNIVERSAL!
