I am so sick and tired of hearing "Why couldn't you have found yourself a nice American man" and "I'm tired of foriegners taking all of the American women" and "He just wants a green card." How many of you have heard this during your visa journey ? How do you handle these annoying comments ?

Edited by panamania79

The interview went well, they told him it will take another 6 months for them to adjudicate the waiver

March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !

June 1,2009-Manuel and I go back to the US consalate AGAIN to give them a letter from the court in Colon along with documents I already gave them last year.I was surprised to see they had two thick files for his case !

Not myself, my wife's family is very polite and respectful and most importantly they dont judge and love me like they would've loved an nice american guy, a nice canadian guy, a nice Nigerian guy or a nice martian guy.

You know why? because they know her and by her chosing me out of all those guys available, it meant that I'm was the one. Moreover, they respect her decision, stand besides her and really don't think less of me because I'm a foreigner.

The reason why this happens so often in this world is because people haven't experienced other cultures, and are being influenced by other people around them, maybe even afraid of something "out of the ordinary", no blue/green/gray eyes???!?!, no blond hair??? no fair skin??? OMG! I don't blame them, i can assure you that if I would've showed up with a girl from a race other than a beautiful white girl like my wife, I'd have been bashed in Mexico since we don't see than many black, indian, chinese women besides mostly white tourists that visit our country.

I'm lucky to have the in-laws I have, and I love them the same way they love me, I can see their honesty in their eyes and their behavoir is true not just because I'm her daugher's husband but because I'm their son-in-law, and because I love and take care of her little baby as if it was my own.

Don't worry, just forget the rude comments and keep the nice ones, and you will live a happier life. A couple is formed by only two people and you and only you chose your husband not your family, friends, co-workers etc..

I haven't really heard much of that, but then again, that might be because my wife is Canadian. Americans rarely seem to think that Canadians are coming to the U.S. for green cards or even consider them foreigners. This is nice, in the sense that my wife and I barely got hassled at all by family and friends.

The bad part is that since so many Americans (and apparently Canadians too) seem to think neither side needs to go through immigration to live in the other's country, family and friends are often very confused when hearing about this whole visa process. In fact, most people I've spoken to are still under the mistaken assumption that once an American citizen marries a foreigner, that individual automatically becomes a U.S. citizen as well.

Really, the only criticism I received came from my former wife! She thinks I'm totally bonkers for wanting to bring a Russian woman here! The rest of my contacts think its pretty cool. They are more interested in hearing about the process and how the "system" works. I even instigated two LDRs for acquaintances that always had an interest but were afraid to cross the border in their own personal search for a mate.

i've heard all of these + many more. at first, i took it as concern for me. but, when the same people keep saying same or close to the same things...it means something else. not quite sure what it means...but i don't like any of the possible meanings. then i got very aggressive about it. now i really just pity the people that make the comments. my friends & family understand.

this is a choice i have made. if you care to be in my life, you will accept & respect my choices & my SO.

I just ignore people like that and comments that I wasn't looking for in the first place. Same goes for anything in life. Chin up and don't pay attention to what others say about you.

actually, you need to finish that up with the rest of the saying

"...and make my right one jealous."

I have heard no negative remarks from friends, coworkers or family. Perhaps its because I know and work with several Filipinos and I and my family have spent several years in Asia with the military. I have heard nothing but complete support.

Although I didn't have any part to play in it, my sister apperently has a boyfriend in Ecuador. I'm wondering when she will be comming over and asking how to do the visa thing.
