They can and they do it, ultimately because the US Embassy is there on the hosting countries good graces. They can control if and when their citizens leave the country. The US Embassy does have to work in conjunction with the hosting countries government to obtain information about the citizen, and the hosting country controls access to this information.

Mrs. Amera...Iran and USA don't have diplomatic relations.

Part of the DS-230 requires the immigrant to get police clearances, criminal records and records of military duty. However, because the US has no relations with Iran and is suspect of any "confirmatory" records coming from the Iranian government, it is not required for Iranian applicants to provide those documents.

So, when we filled out our DS-230, my husband was not required to provide police clearances and military records.

The only way the Iranian government can exert influence is to deny my husband to exit from Iran.

But the Iranian government can not tell the American government, "Hey, we, the Iranian government, want you, the American Embassy in United Arab Emirates, to ask the visa applicant to provide the US Embassy with a CV."

That just doesn't make sense.

Dear Omoba:

The USA and Iran have no diplomatic ties whatsoever.

That is the reason Iranian applicants are forced to travel to Turkey or United Arab Emirates to do any transactions with the US Embassy.

There are no US State Department employees in Iran, NO US Embassy/Consulate or Office in Iran period.

So who would do the home visits? If there is no US government presense in Iran?

I apologize if I'm not telling you what you want to hear. What I am telling you is that in job I work directly with the US State Department, acquiring visas for international visitors to the US including from Iran and Syria. Take it for what it is, just trying to offer you some first hand insight.

I called the DOS this morning....

I just wanted to make sure the case had not been returned to the DOS. It is still at the Embassy in AP.

She said the security checks have cleared as of February 28. That security checks don't expire for 6 months.

It is just the Embassy that needs to finish.
