The homosexual issue is a big issue with him as well.

As far as dress, I try to be modest.....short sleeves but not tank tops....no shorts.....and no low cut shirts/blouses. When I was in Egypt the first time, I had a blouse on that was cut a little low but I wore a cami on under but still when we were in the cafe some man came by and took a peek at my girls. My honey was like, "See, do you like that man looking at you?"......So I try to be a concious to the modesty thing.

I wore a jelaba and a jacket over the jelaba so no one was peeking at anything including my feet. My hair didnt see the air for weeks and people started asking me ENTA SAUDIA? No way in hell would my husband been cool with me wearing a cami in Algeria.. Thats a big LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. I couldnt even talk to the reception desk ( male working there)

I sure hope he chills out over here

Wahrania, what do you want? Do you want to wear the jeleba? There are many arab woman living in arab countries that dont wear that much!

That reminds me of the moment in Season 2? of "The Office":

Jim: "Just have Dwight punch you."

Michael: "Well, that would be kinda worthless because I know a ton of 14-year-old girls who can kick his ###."

Jim: "You know a ton of 14-year-old girls?"

I guess that anyone can sell themselves out and try to pretend to be someone that they really arent. After all, this is true love. I think it may even last 2 weeks or so.

I want all of you to forget about being independent, having opinions, and thinkiing that you are in charge of your life.....lets go along with the program!!!!!

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

This just shows your ignorance of American culture....FYI..women here have jobs, are self supporting, make decisions and dont need a man in order to survive.

Dummy me!!!!! and I thought that true love was letting the other person be the person that they are...after all, that is what attracted them to you in the first place.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I imagine she knows just as much as any other American, being American and all (with a job I think, supporting herself, and probably making her own decisions).

I personally dont have to deal with any double standards. My husband is totally respectful when it comes to other women. I dont have any male friends, so I dont have to worry about that.

I have made some adjustments to my wardrobe, no big deal really.

I dont have any experience, but I would suggest you talk to him for sure about your feelings on the matter.

When I want to get a point across, I say "if I did ________, how would you feel about it?" When the answer comes.. I say "well, thats how I feel when you ___________" I dont say it in a smart *ss tone, just an honest question.

This is usually very effective in any dynamic. :)

Sometimes people arent aware of their behavior, until you put them in your shoes.

Im giving him the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe your husband just doesnt give it much thought... I hope, for your sake, that is the case.

Good luck.

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I think this was such an important subject for every woman on here with jealous or misunderstanding husbands about culture clashes. Talking to a receptionist being restricted and forcing you to cover your neck to your feet that's going a little too far I think if its extremely serious as it sounds? That's controlling not because of love but bc "he can control if he wants cuz he's the man" I think women should hold a backbone on alot of things cuz in the future it's going to hurt them if they let the man get away with alot in this time. I really hope alot of women don't give up religion, appropriate clothing, kids being raised a certain way, etc.. just for a new man in their life. Women go thru alot and it sounds like alot of women on this board have gone thru hell by themselves. I'm all about respect in an Arab Culture country but Everyone deserves to be happy and "free" to do as they like in USA.

thanks sarah.....Ive been depressed about alot of it...I have been torn about alot of things ...Love has made me put up with things that are toxic and as much as I crave it.....his family witnessed him do several things to me when I was there that I think looking back were really off...It was very extreme but his family accepted it as normal...

Weirdness. I eat at a Middle Eastern restaurant quite frequently and have gotten to know the men that work there. They're off-the-boat types. I always wondered why they would talk to me but avert their eyes and seem kind of...flat? dispassionate? with their tone of speech. No smiling or anything like that. From a Western perspective, it's just *odd* to have someone who seems genuinely interested in you (I'm always fielding questions about my job, my studies, and my family) but their body language just doesn't match their words.

Except for this one younger guy WHO IS ALWAYS HITTING ON ME. I swear to god, he was hitting on me right in front of my husband! I wonder if it's because I assumed that his behavior was due to shy-ness and thus tried to get him to open up a bit more by being more "open" with my body language?

The more you know!
