I just checked the NVC automated message and got the message "we have reviewed your documents and have found missing information etc" I called and the operator said that they were missing my original or certified copy of my birth certificate. I said I did send it and it is definitely an original long form as I had to order a new one that had my parents names on it. She said the supervisor will review it and could take up to 10 to 15 business days.

Then she told me that on the Affadavit of Support, I need to send in my recent years tax return (I sent in T4's for 2005, 2006 and 2007). I told her I just submitted my tax return for 2007 and it could take weeks to get back the tax return statement. She basicly said too bad that is what we need. At least, that is all they are asking for on that, we worried about them not accepting my continuing income.

Oh well, there goes my chances of getting my interview scheduled in April for May or June

Question on the bold part: why did you send in Canadian tax returns? What they need for the Affidavit is the USC american tax returns with their W2's, or IRs transcripts. Did you submit both?

And in the meanwhile, you might as well get another copy of your long form birth certificate... these folks are famous for "misplacing" stuff

I sent my Canadian tax returns because we are using my income on the affadvit of Support as well as my husbands because I will still be continuing to work in Canada at the same job (he doesnt quite meet the guidelines) per the instructions in the guidelines. Advantage of living close to the border!

I sure hope they didn't lose my birth certificate, don't want to pay another $27!

Hi Linda,

Sorry to hear about the RFE's! I don't know if you efiled or netfiled your Canadian return, but if you did you should be getting your assessment shortly. You should be able to print out a copy of your T1 if you did it with online software, and our refund was deposited the week after we filed and the assessment arrived the week after that.

I have heard of them saying that they are 'missing' a copy of a birth certificate or marriage certificate or whatever, then when the supervisor has a look it miraculously reappears.

I am sure that the birth certificate will miraculously reappear too (the new B.C. long form birth certificate looks so unique that they probably didn't realize what it was the first time)!

I dropped off my return at the Taxation Centre this year instead of doing EFile because of the complication of me showing my change of marital status and my spouse not a canadian etc. (they advised me to do that and write a letter explaining the situation). That was 2 1/2 weeks ago so hopefully something soon. I did use an online software program and have a copy of the T1, do you think they will accept that or do they want to see the actual assessment? Maybe I will call and ask them again later. She said I have to wait until I get the RFE letter from them anyway so maybe it will come by then.

I doubt you will need the assessment, I just threw that in there for good measure.

Thanks Trailmix, I just assumed that assessment was what they wanted. I will make a copy of T1 and send in. Do I really have to wait until I get my RFE letter?
