I am very confused. My finance will need a co-sponsor or joint sponsor or household sponsor (do you understand my confusion?) after we get married in May. I thought we should figure out what we need as it always takes a little bit longer.

My finance has a job but he is not meeting the poverty line and he has only started this job a months ago. For the 134 we used his mom and she is willing to help us again. We live in a Duplex. They live in one part and we in the other. But we want to move after the seasonal job is over. Therefore, what kind of sponsor are we talking about?

Do I understand it right, that she will have to fill out the I-864 and the I-864A?

Question 8: I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above

we would say yes because we are not using two co-sponsors, right?

Question 21

He would only put in two?

How about his mom? I would think two as well

What about question 21g?

Question 24 b.

My finance would use his mom, so he should mention her here and list her income, right?

How about his mom, would she mention him there and list his income or would she not because she is the co-sponsor?

Question 24 d and e. What would we need to mark? Do I need to be mention in e?

Thank you so much for your help.

Christine

I am very confused. My finance will need a co-sponsor or joint sponsor or household sponsor (do you understand my confusion?) after we get married in May. I thought we should figure out what we need as it always takes a little bit longer.

A co-sponsor is a joint sponsor. A household sponsor is when the co-sponsor lives with the principal sponsor (US petitioner).

If you're going to file the forms with a different address that your co-sponsor's address you don't need to fill out the I-864A.

Do I understand it right, that she will have to fill out the I-864 and the I-864A? Yes, if she lives in the same address that the address's co-sponsor they must fill out an i864A. Aside you're using a co-sponsor everyone must file an I864, and next file together the I864A.

Question 8: I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above

we would say yes because we are not using two co-sponsors, right? Yes.

Question 21

He would only put in two? He must put the numbers of dependants that he has (ex. if there are only you and he there is 2). if he has another dependant he must put it in.

How about his mom? I would think two as well Same answer that before.

What about question 21g? I think that you must put 1 because you're going to sign the i864A.

Question 24 b.

My finance would use his mom, so he should mention her here and list her income, right? I think it's yes.

How about his mom, would she mention him there and list his income or would she not because she is the co-sponsor?

Question 24 d and e. What would we need to mark? d Do I need to be mention in e? the e part is only if you are using the assets of the intending imigrant.

Thank you so much for your help.

You're welcome.

Christine

NOTE: have you checked this?? AOS guide or example forms

The i864A only must file if you put the same address that the co-sponsor. Same case with Question 25 b, d and e.

Another way of handling this is for your husband (to be) to fill in one I864, and your mother in law to fill in another I864. No I864As at all.

Your husband on his I864 ticks the "I am the petitioner" box, and your mom-in-law on her I864 ticks the "I am the only joint sponsor" box. Ignore the box which says "I am the first of two joint sponsors" thats different...

If you only fill in one I864 then link it to other income using the I864A form, you're into uncharted territory as far as moving out of your mom-in-law's home is concerned - as soon as your husband files the form I865 (informing of a change of address) she will no longer be household income attachable to the single I864 you filed, and who knows what will happen...

If you do two I864s, they are independant, and it doesn't matter where anyone lives :)

I did it my way, and it seems to be working... :)
