Does this car have a clutch then? I can't get into the idea that an automatic can be a 'sports' car. Just doesn't make any sense to me.

tell that to vette owners with an auto transmission.

Trust me, my Mustang is a sports car. It's just not a "in your face" sports car. When you mash the accelerator down you will understand. I know from experience that the 120 mph speedometer isn't just for looks.

It might be a good idea for Luz to learn to drive from an instructor and on another car. I can understand how intimidating the mustang must be, both in terms of its power and form. This feeling of intimidation might deter Luz from learning as quickly as she can.

I remember a time when my mini-van had to go into the shop. I wanted to rent a car but my husband thought I was being silly because his 1969 Pontiac Le Mans convertible was just sitting in the garage. My husband has had this car since the 80s and he's taken very good care of it. His ex had an accident while driving it (ruined the passenger side door and passenger side rear fender) and it was in a car shop for a long time being fixed. So now, I have developed this huge fear that I will damage the car too.

Anyway, hubby was insistent so I drove this beautiful "land barge" to work for two days and I was petrified. I took a route that would necessitate the fewest turns because, although it had a shorter wheel base as the mini-van, I had to sit lower than I used to and it seemed like the hood was sticking out for a mile. :D

I'm trying to get hubby to send me a pic of Stanley (the Le Mans) but in the meantime, here's a picture of one in yellow. Our Stanley is painted corvette red.

LOLOL....land barge....

I learned to drive on a 1960-something Cadillac Sedan DeVille. Talk about a land barge. Not only was the car huge but it had a 440-four barrel engine and could haul a$$.

It had an 'ah-ooogah' horn too....... :P

Don't you just love old cars? Back then full-sized cars really were full sized! Mid-sized cars back then are bigger than the full-sized cars of today.

i learned to drive in my parents 1970ish station wagon...

but when it came time for the test I took a few lessons so I could use the instructor's car... I would never have passed with the station wagon when it would come to the parallel parking part...

one time I was driving the station wagon after i got my license and I was backing up out of a driveway and I smashed into a friend's parked vehicle... I caused about 800 dollars worth of damage to the side of her car but there wasn't a scratch or a dent on the station wagon

Gears are an inherent part of the whole 'sports car' experience for me, you get to rev the engine and choose when to change gears, it's always good when the engine is screaming at you! What's the point of having a throaty roar if all you allow it to do is purr?

If it's pure speed you are after the luxury sedans offer that with added comfort too.

Yes, I am old fashioned and just prefer stick shift.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

We looked at Escorts and Mazdas so far. They are much more tuned to her stature. After she gets a few paychecks under her belt I will get her a car that is more suited to her. I think she will have a better time with that.

My little Beryl corners like she's on rails and is a great little motor.

She's an Escort ZX2.

I think a car like her would be perfect for Luz. :)
