Hello,

I am new so I have tried to read all the info and guides on K3 and CR-1. Most info points out that the processing times for I-129F (K3) and I-130 are currently very close. I just received the NOA1 for our I-130 which means I can now file the I-129F (K3) if I want. Does anyone have any opinions about whether or not filing K3 is "worth it" considering current processing times? Thank you!

It is true that processing time for K3 and I-130 look the same at USCIS, but at NVC K3 process time is 2-3 weeks, and I-130 3-4 months. Also, check the time for interview at you embassy. Some embassies take 2-3 months to schedule an interview for K3 and 4-6 months for I-130. On the other side K3 is faster but costs more and requires so much extra paper work.

USCIS processing is only the first step. To compare timelines, look at filing to interview for your specific Consulate. Then, start thinking about your priorities. Is working right away important? Is overall cost? Do you just want to be together as soon as possible? Is it a combination of factors? Think it through.

If I were doing it over again under the current process and timelines, I wouldn't file the I-129F. Working right away wasn't an issue but overall cost and additional filing and processing were.
