That's got to make ####### Cheney envious.

Maybe the liberal environmentalist can show China how to reduce pollution and care for the environment by burning homes..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

And we can only expect more of the same. Things should look up for a few months as they try to make the skies blue for the Olympics. During the candidacy for the Olympics, a lot of the factories were closed and we had blue skies. They also painted the grass green. Absolutely true. They painted the grass and the shrubs along the roadside green.

But since then, things have only gotten progressively worse. When I arrived, there were only taxis and a few privately owned cars on the road. Now there are car dealerships around every corner, no parking, and fewer bikes. When my school first moved outside of the city, we had blue skies and I could see a dome of yellow smog over the city as we drove toward it on our way home. Now that dome has expanded to cover my school and I can no longer see it because I'm in it. They are doing some good stuff, too. They have planted thousands of trees along the major highways. Apparently, they are moving to stop the expansion of the Gobi. I don't know how much success they've had, but we don't have so many sand storms anymore.

Very few cultures and civilizations that have survived over 4K years and are still thriving. Pretty sure China won't be propping up our dollar soon and will shift even more power away from the US.

They let us go in there and provide infrastructure, investments, our processes, and enriched a few individuals and corporations, but now the tides have turned.

Granted their totalitarian regime, polite in the face/plotting in the background, human rights problems, pollution, and rapid learning of Western vices and problems are major issues, but China is a country on a consistent rise.

A consistent but unsustainable rise.

Agreed. I think we have to look at its consistencies, though. It has consistently had all the problems you point out, and they are growing. Before the recent events, I would have said that the totalitarian regime was on a downward trend because I believe the leaders of the country are more interested in remaining in power and would be pragmatic in their reactions in order to maintain that power, but I don't think very many people would agree with me at this particular moment in time. I don't want to say too much because my internet access might be cut if I'm being monitored.
