I have to file soon obviously like everyone else.

How can I do it? Can I do it online or what's the best way? Before I paid an accountant.

I made $0 last year due to immigration. I want to report myself living outside of Canada as of 2006. How can I do this?

Canadian taxes you mean?

If so, I'm pretty sure you have to do them by hand and mail them to the international tax services office in Ottawa.

the first page of the T1 has a space for the time you left Canada.

So I just have to file as normal and mail it in?

Yes CDN taxes

Yeppers. Indicate the date you ceased to be a resident of Canada on page 1 and mail it to the Ottawa address:

2204 Walkley Road

Ottawa ON K1A 1A8

Canada

you can also phone them at: 1-800-267-5177

they were quite helpful to me.

You can use the tax software, but u cant efile, have to mail it in!! Just do it as per normal, and on the front of the tax return is a space that asks, when you CEASED to be a Canadian resident, just fill that in and do ur taxes as per norm!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Did you know you can log into EI and get information about your claim? On the top right hand of that page when you log in, you're able to print your T4E. I'd call Belleville if you haven't gotten anything in the mail, and you're unable to download your T4E.
