Hi Guys!

Anyone who went to Detroit as POE? Will appreciate any advise or tips from you.

I will have two more flights after POE. Detroit to Memphis, then to Paducah, Kentucky

with 3 hours each waiting time before the next flight. Is it ok to bring Goldilocks Ensaymada

for my snack? Are we allowed to eat in the lounge? I will bring Kettle Corn and Boy Bawang Corniks for my Hun. Is it ok to bring those in my check in luggage?

Thanks :)

Hello!

My POE is detroit also. You can bring in food but not drinks. Also, if you are allowed to roam out of the airport make sure you wear something warm cause even though I arrived in Detroit on March 12, it was still snowing there. And as for the pinoy foods you're bringing such as boy bawang...LOL. The funny thing that struck me is that I was kinda comfortable with my first 2 flights where I was still surrounded by Pinoys, but when I arrived Detroit, wala na, puro Amerikano na lahat so I have no one to talk to. Haha be prepared for the little surprises!

But what surprised me most is that the whole flight including going thru US Customs in Detroit is very efficient. They just took my immigrant summary data, asked some MORE questions about me and my fiance, and told me I'm good to go. Plus, I think you have to ask if your connecting flight will transfer your luggage automatically or if you must have them checked in again. Good luck to your trip!

Hello again!

Thank you so much for all those info.

How about the X-ray negative? Should i put it in the check-in luggage? Some would say they handcarry. It would be very inconvenient to handcarry or put in my handcarry bag. I heard

one say he rolled it. I'm worried I might destroy or put some marks on it if not properly

kept in the bag. What do you say?

Thanks ulit.

Hi! my POE was detroit on March 18. I flew northwest from Manila to Japan to Detroit then connecting flight to Providence, Rhode Island. The airport is huge and has 2 concourses. You can take the "express tram" from one gate to the other instead of walking. But if u have 3 hrs waiting time, i'd rather u use the walkalators so u can look around :) and yah, bring warm clothes cuz when i got there, it was snowing :P

I had my xray inside my carry-on luggage, a little bit folded and creased but they didnt ask for it. Remember to line up in the visitors' lane and not the immigrants/USC lane. i lined up at line 6. It would also help if you're the first few ones to get off your flight because the customs' lanes get filled up easily and it takes about at least 5 minutes per person to go through immigration. then after immigration, you have to pick up all your luggages and check them again with your respective airlines. This is for all passengers whether u're getting off detroit or getting a connecting flight. after that, you go to the gate where ur connecting flight is (this is where u can take the express tram). Btw, I wasn't asked anything by the immigration officer. she just looked at my passport and papers and asked what my husband's name is and had my fingers scanned and then my pic taken and that was it :)

I also had boy bawang in my hand carry :P and m&ms and knick knacks :P and had several dried mangoes, peanut kisses and other pinoy food in my luggage. Didnt encounter any problems :)

Have a safe and hassle free trip :)

I actually asked if the immigrant officer needed the X-ray negative and he said not with him, but give it to the person who might need during the marriage process such as officiants, etc. I handcarried all my documents during the whole trip. Yes, people commented on it and I said it's cause i'm going on K1 visa. My advice is to not put your important documents in your check in luggage. I saw some Pinoys at the US Customs who were not allowed to get thru the port of entry, maybe because they didn't have the documents the officer needed.

My wife came through Detroit on November 4th, 2007 and she did not have any problems, she bought a document tube to put the x-ray in and kept it with her.

Kathlene flew from Detroit to Nashville and I picked her up there and we spent the night in Nashville and drove back to Paducah the next day, it's only a 2 hour drive or so.

So you are coming to Paducah! We will have to get together once you are here as we live in Paducah!
