Irritated by boycott

I live in San Diego--a city with many, many, undocumented Mexicans--and I had a rather nice day today. Half my students were absent, so teaching was so easy! Correcting papers was a breeze because there were so few.

When I passed the free clinic on my way home, I noticed only 2 cars in the lot, instead of the 20 that usually try to fit into that tiny lot. I also went to the grocery store near the school where I teach--it is fairly new and really big. I don't usually shop there because I always seem to get behind some woman with 5 kids, WIC coupons and food stamps. It takes them forever to check out because every voucher must be rung up on its own. Today the store was not crowded (but not deserted either) and not a single customer in front of me used WIC vouchers or food stamps!

It made me realize how much $$ California is spending on the education, feeding, and health of Mexican children--not Americans of Mexican heritage, but Mexican children who do not have "papers".

Yet all of us have to pay, wait, and pay some more to get our loved one to this country--legally. Yet some (not all) Mexican people think because they work in this country they should be given "papers"--free and without waiting! Maybe they should move to Vermont, where the paperwork seems to move faster! Or better yet, people who don't like American laws, can choose to live somewhere else.

I just read the newspaper and I am annoyed that the newspaper seemed to imply the boycott was a success because a Rubio's taco shop closed down for the day. I do not believe it had much of an effect at all. Most of the workers asked for the day off(according to 2 different newpapers I read)--which is so different from actually boycotting your job.

These are just my opinions and thoughts. You are free to agree or disagree. I just needed to vent a bit.

BTW--I have been happily teaching Latino children for 15 years.

This is just me saying we can agree to disagree...and some we can agree on...also, I certainly won't flame you for your opinions..everyone is entitled.

Myself, and I believe most of us here, I am SO against illegal immigration, and it's really annoying that people keep comparing IMMIGRANTS to ILLEGAL immigrants...two VERY totally different things. I feel for these people..I quite honestly really do...but there's a right and a wrong way to do things. They've chosen the wrong way.

As far as where I disagree...there are illegal immigrants of every descent, so I took a bit of exception when I kept reading 'Mexican' in your post. That's just a fact; there might be more of one or the other where you live, but there are a lot of races. In other countries, Illegal immigrants (happens in the Uk a lot as well, etc etc) might be primarily of another descent, and I would feel the exact same way about that.

Another point I have issue with is WIC coupons...now I don't take food stamps or anything like that..but there are people that work, are eligible, and truly need them. They might be in the minority, but they're out there. As far as WIC, I used them the entire time Corey was small..and I ALWAYS worked FULL TIME.. ie at least 40 hours a week..but my income was still insufficient and I was still eligible..raising a child on my own, I wasn't about to turn them down. Just my two cents...but I realize it was just a vent, and you are entitled to feel how you feel.

By working today..you missed all the 'good' stuff. Very heated discussion. But most of us agree with you. For me...this has been one of the worst days of my life. Seeing the law-breakers demand rights that us REAL Americans don't have...while I desperately miss my husband and he is missing his only child's mild-stones. It ain't fair!

Maybe you think so...but my king bed is empty. Until my Paul is hogging this bed, I'm going to be demanding my rights as a REAL American. Oh...you know what probably even after...cause legal is legal. Right is right...and wrong is wrong.

I hate to tell you this, but you're not the only one alone here. It may do you better to learn how to deal with it.
