"Reasons for requesting Advance Parole" on form I-131

Hi everyone

I'm completing I-131 and just wondered what other applicants who successfully received their Advance Parole papers put as answers to the following question/requirement:

[i]"On a separate sheet of paper, please explain how you qualify for an advance parole document and what circumstances warrant issuance of advance parole"[/i]

My own reason is that I have very elderly grandparents to whom I am very close, and, should anything happen to either of them, I would like to be able to return to the UK if necessary . It may be that I won't even need to go back during the AOS process but if that situation arises I would like to be free to leave and re-enter the US. Another reason is that my family are having a big celebration in November and would dearly love my husband and I to attend.

I'm not sure if these are valid reasons for advance parole - I am not planning to leave the US other than for these reasons until my AOS is complete so will not be coming back and forth for any other reason.

I am planning on getting married at the beginning of september, and my future husband and I have an opportunity to volunteer at an orphanage in India around november. And we really really would like to do it... Do you think I could get the AP by then, assuming we are going to apply for AOS right after our marriage?

The rule of thumb for an AP to be approved is 90 days. It can take less days too but one never knows with USCIS. I would say you are cutting it short.

Thanks for that... It sounds little short, you are right! I don't know if we can postpone the mission... If not, we could always get married earlier!! I wouldn't mind, the soonest I am with my fiancé, the better!

You are welcome. I just wouldn't like you to get stranded and not being able to go.

Whatever you decide, just try to file I-131 a little over 90 days before your departure.

My husband just got approved for his AP a couple weeks ago, but he hasn't gotten anything in the mail yet. It was a little less than two months for us, but of course, every office is different.

I just had to send away my passport to get my name changed, so now that he'll be able to leave the country, I'll be stuck here!
