Cheap Phone Rates to the UK and Germany

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd ask those who phone the UK and/or Germany what calling plans/phone card/etc everyone is using....

We've used www.ekit.com but know there have to be cheaper plans out there. We either use the toll-free number to access the service and pay $.25/min, OR use the toll number (and pay for a long distance call) and get $.06/min. With my phone plan at home, I get 200 toll minutes free, so the calls wind up being only $.06/min until I reach the 200 minute limit. There's also a $.59/call service charge for each successful call placed.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

I would look at VONAGE. They are a VOIP phone service and much better than using calling cards.

Their standard unlimited $24.95 US calling plan includes free calls to Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the UK.

They also have other unlimited international calling plans: http://www.vonage.com/intplans_details.php

The best thing about this service is that you also save big on local US calls.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I pay $50/month for my land line, which I would LOVE to disconnect (we all have cell phones now)... whatever we find would have to beat that.

If you have a broadband internet connection I would seriously consider Vonage.

I do... we've been using the Skype free-ware until now. Not all of David's friends/family have computers though.

True but they are good. I have used: Verizon voicewing, Packet8, Crapcast Digital voice, Sunrocket (now bankrupt). I am now with comcast crapcast but still think Vonage has been the best out of all of them.

I do... we've been using the Skype free-ware until now. Not all of David's friends/family have computers though.

Vonage is basically a home phone service that uses your broadband internet service to communicate. You basically plug in a normal phone or cordless to talk and receive calls. The service does not rely on a PC or require others to use a PC to talk. You can transfer your existing landline number to them and get a range of features such as voicemail, caller id etc for free

What's Vonage?

Vonage is an all-inclusive phone service. Vonage gives you local and long distance calling anywhere in the US (including Puerto Rico) and Canada for one low price. We can do this because we use your existing high-speed Internet connection (also known as broadband) instead of standard phone lines. You'll save money and get great features like Caller ID with Name, Call Waiting and Voicemail Plus included at no additional cost.

What's VoIP?

VoIP (or Voice over Internet Protocol) is a great new way to make and receive phone calls using your broadband Internet connection instead of your standard phone line. Vonage converts your phone calls into data that zips through your high-speed Internet connection just like email. It comes out the other end just like a regular phone call. Your callers will never know that it's any different since it sounds just like a regular phone call.

Right... thanks... I was referring to the feasibility of Skype though.... not everyone he communicates with can use Skype, hence our search for alternatives.

That's right. Unlike when using Skype, with a vonage phone service you would be able to pick up the phone and call someone's landline in the UK for free.
