Hi all

First of all I am very frustrated,I came to the US on a K1 Visa and applied for my SSN# and never got it.

It was my bad cos I should of waitied 2 weeks and I didnt.

However I sent out my papers for my AOS and got my new EAD card on Friday,so I decided to go to the SSO and get my card thinking this would not be a problem.

So I went in and the women told me the varification from the K1 visa has to come back. Hell that K1 Visa run out of date in December!!!There wont be any verification coming back due to that visa being out of date.

I dont understand why she didnt say "okay you have your EAD card it is no problem"

She did make a copy of the EAD card and all that though.

She told me it could take several months as she needs the verification from the homeland people if I am legal here or not.

I need to file a complaint somewhere as this B**ch is not doing her job properly. It is soooo frustrationg for me,I have been in the US since September of 2007 and still no SSN.

Any help would be appriciated.

My wife applied for the SSN and was told the same thing. She received her card within 10 days. I think all they need to do is verify your immigration status with USCIS and it's all done electronically so it wont take that long. Understand your frustration. Give it two weeks and if you dont get it I would go to a different office and apply again.

Mine took 2 weeks after filing with my GC . I waited too just like you. I am sure everything will be okay with yours as well.

New document/status, new verification needs to be done, so far it sounds like b*tch is doing her job. LOL

Yes but she said the OLD verification needs to come through first and then the new one.

OK my mistake. I misread it. Yeah if you have a new document/status that should be submitted. Your eligiblity is based on current status/documentation, especially when the old status has expired.

BTW At which SSA office did this happen?

It was in Missouri

Fortunately, I'm here in Missouri too but never had any problems with SSA. When I cam here using K1, I applied for SSN 10 days after my arrival, got my card in less than a week... got married and then went back to SSA to have my name changed and got my card again in less than a week... got my GC and then went back again to SSA to remove the condition on my card (I cannot work until DHS authorized) and got my card in 2 weeks since they had to electronic verification.

I went to the SSN office in Arnold Missouri. There was no problems. Wait and see if you get something in the mail within 10 days. My circumstances were the same as David -Mae, and I went in several times to get updated cards. When you went in "too early" the first time, and you weren't in the system yet, I'd have gone back. They did take a copy of your EAD, and do they have a copy of your K-1 Visa that was in your passport? If so, I'm sure you'll get a card as soon as they can confirm the information is in their system. Again, I'd go back in a couple of weeks if you haven't heard anything, ask to see a worker, and have them check your status on the system. Best of luck!

I can't imagine what the problem is - according to their own RULES your EAD Card (I-766 or I-688B) are perfectly acceptable. There's no reason to check 'previous visas' if that's what they said. When you go back again - ask to speak with a supervisor.
