For K-1 there are 2 stages of sponsorship.

First stage: The Sponsor for the NON-Immigrant (Time from entry to the USA until getting the green-card) (This is the I-134, it is not considered to be a legally binding affidavit)

Second Stage: The sponsor for the Green-Card. (This is the I-864, this one IS legaly binding)

This costs the sponsor nothing unless the immigrant uses means tested benefits.

I-864 sponsor is held liable to repay the government for any means tested benefits that the sponsored immigrant may use.

This responsibility ends when one of the following conditions is met:

  • Sponsor dies.
  • Immigrant dies.
  • Immigrant becomes a US Citizen through naturalization.
  • Immigrant leaves the USA permanently
  • Immigrant works and is credited with 40 quarters of work.

OK so the sponsor has no worries about having to pay anything for me! then?? so unles i use the means tested benefits they will never ever need to worry about having to pay nothing right??

Question!! what is means tested benefits?? because my fionce has two children and lives on her own in a HUD house! will this be considered as MTB?? she also uses medicade!

but does it just mean if i use it yeah ?

also what is 40 quarters of work! ?? does it mean 40 hours of work a week or 40 months etc etc

im knew to all of this you see !! any more help would be brilliant!!!
