Maybe this is aint the place for me to reply but as I got kinda curious about few of the answers in here, I might as well ask it in here instead of starting a new topic.

Anyways, my fiance has filed the petition for me, I am the beneficiary, and this topic made me wonder since some were saying that an official company letterhead should be used but what if they are not available? I mean, my fiance is selfemployed, she is in home rentals, but she doesnt have a letterhead or anything... only way for us to really prove that she has sufficient funding (and same goes for the cosponsor who runs a carehome, and again there is no official company letterhead (my fiance could do it on her own easily but we want to be sure there are enough fundings)) is to do this through tax returns..

Would this get us into trouble? I mean, I am kinda surprised if this will need to be written on an official letterhead which doesn't exist and I am wondering what to do if we really need this..

Hello everyone.

I was just wondering if anyone had any problems getting a letter from their employer? Ok I am not proud of it but I work for Wal-Mart and I have been having problems with them signing a simple letter of employment. I am so pissed because they say they no longer do that and I must fill out a form or give them a form to fill out. I never heard of a form that I can give them from a visa or Affidavit of Suport. I am just so angry I do not wish to share my business with them and I feel this is nothing they need to know about. I am shure that you all may know that working at Wal-Mart is like being in hight school where everyone tells your business to everyone else. Even telling them what it is for they still will want me to use a form and they will not sign any letter.

Has anyone else gone through this cr#p before?

I just want to know what is the best thing I can do? This can destory everything for me now. How can you work for a place and they can never do anything for you in return

What form are they asking for? Is it a Walmart Form?

Listen, if they are asking you to fill out a form they have, then do it. If they are saying you need to provide a form, ask where you can get a copy of it.

Otherwise, photocopy the section of the I-864 where it specifies you need to get a letter from your employer and hand it your #1 manager of the store and say, "The US government requires me to ask you for a letter stipulating the terms of my employment. Would you please provide a formal letter specifying my employment terms."

And if they will not provide the letter, have them write a letter to the National Visa Center/ Department of State explaining why they will not provide a letter outlining your employment.

Then as you go out...tell them to expect the State Department to call them.

Is it possible that you misunderstood their response? My employer no longer allows local managers to fill out letters of employment. It has been centralized at the national level and I need to fill out a form to get one. Is it possible that WalMart is the same way. It sounds like this record of employment that they are offering is roughly what you need you just need to find the form that they referring to and submit it.

Don't worry this whole process tends to stress us out but in the end it's worth it.

You're not asking for an uncommon thing my bank required the letter in order to qualify for my mortgage.

People that are self employed would probably be fine in just sign a DECLARATION/STATEMENT that they are self employed. Their tax returns should back up this info.

Thanks for the reply, this makes sense yeah :)

The I-134 and I-864 both state if you are self employed you need to submit your business license or business rating (ie Dun and Bradstreet). The HCMC Consulate requires the original for the interview, the I-864 for AOS, The USCIS will accept a photo copy. You can also include a letter on offical letterhead that states you are self employed with the salary, position, permanent or temporary status. Being self employed means you can write it for yourself and if using a computer make "offical letterhead" letter. I did that for Thi's interview and HCMC Consualte didn't complain or say anything about me writing my own letter.

The salary can be written in annual or hourly wages if you are employed. The Consulate just wants additional proof beside your W2s (if you submit your tax return) or tax transcript. I think it's redundant but you give the government what they want and they're happy. Getting your fiance(e) with you is most important not what paperwork they want. (The same goes for companies like Walmart)

Just to clarify, the "Business License or Business Rating by 3rd parties (ie D&B) is for Self Owned businesses that do not disclose their financial records (ie Corporations). For people that are self employed as a sole proprietor (and similar situations), those would not apply. The proof required is ITRs and 1099/other income/receipts documments filed with the ITR.

Thanks to everyone that put in god advice. I was able to have them write my letter today. No one wanted to give me any answers or reason why they would not do it even my Store Manager was no help she just kept saying the same thing and did not try be much of help. So I went to the next step going out from the store I work for and above their heads as soon as they got the info that I went else where they called me and told me they were writing a letter for me. Wow was that so hard? OMG they make simple things so hard. Well hopefully this process will change in the future so that other will not have to go throught this stupid trouble. Maybe they can make a new form that your employer will have to fill out with their Company ID# and info and not have to use a letter anymore.

It's done I only worry others will get stressed over something like this for such a simple letter.

You might want to check out the website - http://www.theworknumber.com. I apply for my K-1 this March 2008. My 2nd NOA2 will not arrive within the next couple months as I guess. However, I am planning to obtain my "Letter of Employment" from this website at the end of May 2008. I have this information from my employeer internal website. Hope this helps.

I was given that site from my work but it was not what I needed. So I talked to my H.R. dept. and went they told my personel manager to type me up a letter. So I was able to get the letter I wanted. So you can get a letter because that is what the government wants and that is what you need to tell them or keep going over their heads until you find someone willing to help you.

I work at Walmart also and I had no problem getting an employment verification letter. I just went HR and told her what I needed it for and she just put my info into a form and gave it to me. I went and asked her for a 2nd one the other day b/c I'm sending updated financial info with my hubby for his interview and again had no probs. It probably just depends on who your HR is and what kind of mood they're in.
