I've seen that I need an original birth certificate for my AOS and that if it's not in English a translation is needed.

However it doesn't say whether I can translate is myself or have to pay someone to do it....

People here have successfully translated their own. The person translating it put their name on the translation and signed it.

I did my own translation based on the translation of another brazilian friend who went to this same process and she notarized it for me. This is how mine looked like....of course without any "X" on the names.

Federal Republic of Brazil

I personally used the international version of birth certificate that the french government provides.

No idea if it will be ok with USCIS or not. :P

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

It is called "Un extrait plurilingue" (c'est un extrait d'acte d'état civil destiné à être utilisé à l'étranger.).

Depending on where you are born, you should be able to order your birth certificate online.

Here are the different kind of birth certificates:

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

I understand that what I sent will mostly help another brazilian, but my point was that you can just do an accurate translation and you will be fine. That's what we did.

Teoricamente, vc não pode fazer a tradução, but....I did my own based on my friend's birth certificate. She already got her GC. She agreed with the modifications I made (cause ours were not totally identical) and she signed and notarized it for me. I have been working with translations for the last 3 years, if you want I check/correct yours. Do you know any other brazilian that could notarize it for you?
