HI everyone,

I'm a french citizen, still waiting for AOS and EAD (taking FOREVER, right now in the "depressed" stage).

I am now under my wife's insurance which is "pretty good" for an american insurance however, I was wondering is any of you tried to see if you could still be insured by a french organization/company since you know that going from France to the US regarding health care is quite a shock. I have found something on the net which basically allows you to stay in the "securite social", you might want to take a look:

http://www.cfe.fr/

Maybe some of you know this site or even use it and I was wondering if you are just insured like any americans or if you decided to use something else. The insurance my wife and I have right know has a maximum "out of pocket" money of around $3000 which to any french citizen is pretty scary! I don't now if any of you watched Sicko from Michael Moore but if you haven't well....maybe you shouldn't watch it anyway, it's too scary :)

So please feel free to post regarding this subject. Oh and to all american citizen, don't forget to vote Obama, or Clinton...we never know, maybe one day the US will have universal healthcare!

Thanks,

Fred

The Americans think that Universal Healthcare is the devil.

Try talking to them about it and they defend their outrageous system with every inch of their bodies.

I looked at la caisse des francais de l'etranger. It seems fine and dandy till you look at how much they reimburse(page 2) .

They do it based on french level of healthcare which doesn't even get close to how much the American system charge.

However, there is hope but i haven't looked into it as i have to get ready.

"La CFE vous rembourse dans la limite des tarifs applicables

en France, ce qui peut se révéler insuffisant, surtout dans

les pays où le coût médical est élevé. P our vous permettre

d’obtenir de meilleurs remboursements et pour faciliter

vos démarches, nous avons passé des accords avec des

assurances complémentaires dont vous trouverez la liste

sur www.cfe.fr, rubrique « Nos partenaires, assureurs

complémentaires »."

American Healthcare sucks so muchhhhhhhhhhhhh. I am sure you can find a couple of French insurances but they will most likely cover only accidentals not preventative.

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

You do need a "mutuelle" so that you're reimbursed at 100% but I searched and it would cost me between 230 to 300 euros/month which is too much, especially since I can't work yet because I'm waiting for my EAD still...

Your only option which you already opted is to be on your wife's healthcare. Nothing can beat ~$130 per month.

Is the 230 to 300 euros for the mutuelle en top de la cotisation pour la caisse?

What do you mean by "nothing can beat $130 per month? 230-300 euros is total.

Hello!!

I am french too, and I am also very scared of the American system regarding health care... And I have also seen Sicko, which I really regret now, because I am even more scared

I heard about the CFE too.. As I don't have my visa yet, I am planning on going to La Maison des Français à l'étranger in Paris, on of their office is specialized with medical cover. So, I will let you know if they is a way to be as protected as we are in France, but I seriously doubt about this...

I mean really, their non-medical cover freaks me out and that is the only thing that really worries me about leaving France to the US!

And yeah, I agree, for a lot of things, I really hope that one of the democrates is going to win these presidential elections!!!

Bye!

A bientôt,

Faustine

Being on your spouse healthcare usually costs ~$130 per month. Sorry about the confusion.
