Hi all!

The courthouse told my fincé that we need to provide SSN to get a wedding licence... Obviously I don't have one and won't get one before we're married...

How does it all work?

You are entitled to one as a K1 visa holder :)

One doesn't need SSN to get a marriage license and you can certainly apply for SSN when you come to the US as a K-1 visa holder.

You are eligible for a social security number now.

The requirements of marriage vary by state. Some states may require a social security number, but I'd still call again (maybe a different county) and get a second opinion. Also, search the web for the exact requirements of your state.

You can get a SSN because you came on a K-1 visa. K-1 visa's are entitled to a SSN, all you need to do is go to the nearest SSA office, bring your birth certificate, I-94 + passport...

As for the marriage license, you don't need a SSN to get a marriage license..I've never heard of that before. I would definitely try going to a different county if that one is giving you trouble. Or just go back and hope for a different clerk :rolleyes:

When we applied for ours they didn't even ask for ID.

Nope. Counties set their own requirements about what is required for a marriage license.

OP, seriously, try a different county. Although research it first on google...
