Well, I have been approved for my green card last year summer and since then it has been a complete pain finding a job.

I never get called back, I don't get any replies at all and have only 1 seasonal jonb in retail.

I finished 2 different eductaion in my home country and have a very nice resume, but I guess it seems not to be working for me here.

I have worked for 7 years a social worker, but than the pay is so low in Arizona, they don't consider me.

Often I've been asked what I did make in the Netherlands and then I don't hear from them again.

As a travel agent in which field I worked for the last 2 years there, but here they seems to work still with an old fashion flight reservation system, which comes so close to the updated one we use, but snce that computer program is not on my resume, they don't want me. I am considered entry-level again.

So, basically I am just venting, but hey, I need to get some job that supports us right?

Any advise here where to start differently?

Hey fox.

I haven't been through all of that yet, but some basic questions I guess are have you done the equivalency things to your education qualifications in the Netherlands? There's some websites or organizations you go through to get it certified roughly what your education is worth here in the US.

Also, how hard would it be for you to take a course in the computer program you need for flight attending here in the states?

Maybe when you're at interviews for social security offices, you should explain that you don't expect to make as much money as you did before, or explain that the cost of living is different between the two areas so they can't just compare the numbers.

One thing I'm kind of planning for my fiance when he's here, because we expect difficulties, is maybe offering to intern at a company for a couple months? This I guess sets you up for being taken advantage of, but what if you were told you were turned down and then asked if you could have an internship with them? It'd be unpaid, but hell you're not able to find work anyway. The important thing is it'd help you get a foundation here in the States, and if you're a good worker it'd get your foot in the door at that company too. They'd get to know you and see that culturally you still fit in, are capable, are enthusiastic enough to work for free :P, etc.

Good luck. Sorry it's so hard :(

Concerning the computer program, I have contacted several travel agency, but no one can tell me where to get the course. Which basically only has a few different codes than the one I know, so I can get that within 1 week on the jobThe only suggest me to do the whole college again? a 3 year course?

I have been willing to do so.

I wished I knew where to go to get my studies evaluated to American standard, I guess that would help a lot, because as a social worker I need to get liseneced in AZ.

If anyone knows where I would be able to evaluate my diplomas that would be great. Anyone that happens to know where I can get a SABRE course?

phone around to local colleges, I'm sure someone somewhere will have travel agent classes.

How about registering with a temp employment agency? They could help get you temp jobs, which often lead to permanent positions.

Its unfortunate, but most of us end up starting from scratch, way down at the bottom of the totem pole when we get here. Its incredibly frustrating, and yes, it can be rather humiliating and demeaning. But unless you're independently wealthy and can start up your own business (there's an idea, start your own travel agency!) you're pretty much starting over.

OP, if you go to ece.org you can get evaluation of your credentials - I went with the general one, not the subject by subject one but was never asked for this (need this for grad school).

It took me just over 13 weeks to get a job (average these days is 20 weeks per some web sites) - I applied for everything I saw that matched my skills and qualifications - from CareerBuilder job postings to applying directly at companies - I even signed up for 2-3 employment agencies. Hint, if you look through Craigslist postings and they mention the name of the hiring company, google it and apply directly at company's website.

Good luck and I am sure you will find a job soon!

No problem. I am sure a job will come along - yesterday and today I received two offers for places I applied to back in January! Had to turn them down since I got a job, but this only goes to prove the hiring places can take their sweet time to fill an opening. Don't give up!!! Keep applying.
