Once again - you're missing what we're saying. You have to understand or at least be aware of the past to make sense of what is going on now. Its not as though the civil rights movement was that long ago - within living memory in fact. Can we achieve an egalitarian society within the space of 40-50 years? It seems rather optimistic IMO.

Noone is denying, justifying or excusing inner city problems.

Missing or ignoring. Much like the situation in Palestine I am not interested in the semantics of who is to blame. If we all thought along those lines the world would be at war again because somebody has stepped on somebody else's toes at one stage or another.

Greece and Turkey, for example, should start a war as Greece should reclaim Constantinople. Would you support that and have the same compassion for the Greeks considering the atrocities committed by the Ottoman empire there?

We are discussing race relations in the USA.

Of course you are not interested in the blame game... you just want everyone to drop history and live like nothing ever happened. LIke we've said... easier said than done.

Going from discussing sociological differences in the same country, to discussing whether or not one country should start a shooting war against another, totally different country is a rather substantial jump in logic.

As I say - different situation entirely. Different ethical considerations. But then this doesn't need to be pointed out - its obvious.

The reactionary, non-sequential mind tends to forgo logic at times, 6.

I think its time to put a Spock siggie soon.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I think the only responsible thing to do is to laugh at the illogical conclusions reached by BY and his ilk.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Once again its a failure to understand history. You must mean you did not remember the part where MODERN African genocide and warfare has been based in great part as a disastrous result of European Colonialism? Much like the Middle East if you so choose to consider another effect elsewhere.

Anyway. Pretty much every nation there that has been handed back in pristine condition is now a #####. Whitey's fault. Maybe some cultures simply cannot manage something for ####.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Why don't you donate all your money to Bill Cosby, finger-pointing talk show hosts or right-wing fringe groups?

I see what's going on now. You fixate on "certain people" as an excuse to ignore a mainstream debate.

Nice try. You're the one who is fixated on history. Effectively finger-pointing whitey for the community's perils. Last time I checked the year it isn't the 60's, it is 2008. The solution is actually quite simple. Go get a legitimate job. Go get an education. Take care of your community. Even Alex+R should be able to figure that one out.

Applause.

The 60s came before the 70s. 70s before 80s. So an and so forth. This is called the sequence of time and history has everything to do with it.

Given that, come up with a way to empower these communities to be able to get legitimate jobs, get an education, and take care of communities. Its all easy from an internet forum. But where are you going to (or willing to beyond griping based on a lack of understanding of history) put your part in... or at the least assure others do?

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Slave labor built the foundations of the US economy. If ever there was entitlement to a fair piece of the pie, this would be it. Its called reparations that are as yet forthcoming.

And sadly, that will not be paid.

Again, a better understanding of history would suit you best. Perhaps starting with Aboriginal land rights and working your way back, yes? Then maybe an objective analysis of African slavery will point you to the creation of very separate realities for present day Aboriginies versus African Americans on two different continent that arose as a result of their histories.

Slave labor was the foundation of pretty much every nation. Man, no wonder when you buy text books there are two version. One for the US and one for everybody else. Do you actually believe that the US was the only nation know for slavery. I think you need to read up on the history of various African nations.

Applause.

What would you like whitey to do to fix this then?

Lets rephrase it the other way... what do you want African Americans to do? Obviously history is of little concern to you, so what do you propose?

More realistically, I think African Americans can name what they want to be able to get a more level playing field: end to racial profiling, real access to financial resources, proper political representation as equal members of American society, etc. Its not 40 acres and a mule that they're asking for probably but it sure would be nice for that 'promise' to be fulfilled too.

Start by not blaming whitey for their perils. Followed by obeying the law. Then actually taking responsibility for their actions and circumstances. Did whitey turn their neighborhood into a hood and ghetto. Therefore start cleaning up and taking care of your community.

Financial Resources you say. It is called EBT as well as a free education.

Um hum... I can't even begin to imagine to point out the complete disregard for reality in this reply. Maybe a good series of visits to many inner city schools would do you good.

And also... when you find a representative, not outlier, complainant in the African American community that points the finger at this whitey (so defensive and as per your own words, you're the first in the family to set foot onto N. America), then you can be taken seriously.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Illogical how so? Because I do not believe in blame game, race card or history being used to justify one's actions in 2008.

You probably have some sort of arts or English major degree yet pretend you know it all, like your ilk. ;)

I let Oprah do that for me. As I can recall she no longer wants to donate money to those same communities you mention due to their disregard for the gift or actually learning.

Pristine? Holy Cow...

Now this argument of yours is really starting to sound Aryan. Congratulations. Just write what you really feel... not culture... but race... get it out in the open. It is of course, a suggestion and not really me pointing the finger of blame at you...

For the rest of us, we'll continue to rationalize these outbursts as a natural resurgence of the very deep-rooted racial undertones present and denied in many folks.

Is this the comparison that I make? Clearly there must be some invisible type somewhere on my posts...

But as for solutions, its what the society does, not this whitey of yours. And this is occuring for the entire nation, as a whole, at a very excruciating pace... things need to be sped up for those segments of the population that have not been able to benefit at the same rate as others. The point to make is that if you want a certain community to get past its history, you really are going to have to do a better job in not reminding them with logic as divisive as yours.

Lets get one thing straight. I could not care less if someone labels me a racist or any other #######. I tell it like it is. Some like it others do not. I have many friends who are actually from Africa. Who act and think nothing like your Wright type of black American. So enough with this race bullshit.

The suggestion is for you, not Oprah, nor other folks. Perhaps more than your blastopore will open up after that point.

Amen, sister. Everytime I feel compelled to say something, I bite my tongue and imagine Jerry Springer.

Coming from you that does not mean much. It would be like you bagging Fox News.
