Pat Buchanan: Black Americans should be grateful we brought them over on slave ships!

Impoverished places tend to be the most crime ridden. Coincidence?

This is much more prevalent in the US than anywhere else in the world I've been.

Also, how is it that during the great depression when people where begging for food that crime was not so prevalent. When the unemployment rate was at levels not seen since then. When the average wage was peanuts a day.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

What if they're hot, black, shop-lifting cheerleaders?

Can I have a mix? Some asian, black, white and hispanic cheerleaders will do. I hear baby oil make the spanking sting more.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

The Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders would probably be your best bet.

I don't care if every single person in VJ disagrees with me but I will never allow someone to use history or their situation to justify crime and play the victim game. Especially when it comes to hurting others.

Who, specifically, is doing this?

When someone says that inner city crime is a function of a well established class divide between majority whites and (what was up until the late 60's) very much an underclass, its not quite the same as someone who says "I robbed that liquor store because I'm a repressed minority and I couldn't get money any other way".

You do see the difference. Right?

I will say this. Yes the whole abolishment of slavery and removal of segregation was not handled well. Isolating the black community was a huge mistake and the nation is now paying for this, literally with their lives for so many.

I think for some people living in certain communities the hatred and grudges against the white community is now rooted deeply. This hatred is consequently passed on from generation to generation and is only keeping people in that community down. On the other hand there are lots of black Americans who have focussed on the future and improving their lives rather than living in the past. I look at what someone like Oprah has gone through and where she is at and am extremely impressed. And she is just one person with many others like her.

I have never said I understand exactly what black Americans are going through considering I come from such a privileged nation where all of the essential basics are taken care of. The one thing people may not know or forget is that Australia is a nation built on caring and looking out for the underdog. All I can do is pass on what I see and believe works.

Or I can just work on fitting in and being preoccupied with my looks, the car I drive, the location of my house and the sq footage of my house. And don't get me started on generalizing because you know it is true for people who live in large US cities.

What is? That people who live in large cities are preoccupied with looks, the cars they drive and the square footage of their houses?

Good luck with that one.

Certainly the middle class and the well off. Hence why I really enjoy traveling to smaller cities as the people are much nicer, down to earth and less full of themselves.

That's interesting - given that you seemed to suggest previously that you don't take people as you find them, but rather how you expect them to be.

Also - would it be a surprise that a lot of people who work in big cities don't actually live there...?

Well yes and no. For example, there is a huge cultural difference between Melbourne, Aus to the DC area. Now Sydney on the other hand is similarly materialistic and self-centered like other large US cities. Being that it's more about the bling than quality of life.

I think I might have to start adding a disclaimer stating that: anything I post is only an expression of my opinion and experiences. I do not warrant its completeness or accuracy, and it should not be relied upon as such. My statements and opinions are subject to change without notice.

Otherwise I will have to spend the next 1,000 years clarifying myself for nothing.

How easy it is to be ignorant of history... or just ignore it. Either way, its not an excuse for judging what clearly you do not wish to understand.

Yes. I just look at the current reality of who, as a percentage, is committing the majority of crimes in both America and against fellow brothers in Africa. Last time I checked they where not white.

the truth hurts

Most serial killers are white males. What does that say? We could go on and on with statistics of crimes based on the physical characteristics of criminals.

But serial killers are not the majority of criminals.

:P Which would you rather have in your community, 40 thieves or a couple of serial killers?

Neither... I'd rather have a racist. LOL

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

What about a thieving racist serial killer?

I'd say its more about putting together a coherent argument that doesn't jump off onto unrelated subjects - like the Ottoman Empire.

There was nothing wrong with the ottoman empire example. Millions of people where enslaved and tortured for hundreds of years by them around the same time African American where enslaved. So the point of that example was how people have moved on rather than condemning Turkey.

Australians where exiled to death by the queen and tortured. I don't see these people using the victim card. Actually I have never ever heard anyone beat it, ever, about England. Now these guys had terrible things done to them. I am not going into either example any further. You either get the point or you don't.

I don't get it I'm afraid.

All three of those situations are different, the similarites you're pointing towards are entirely superficial.

Can they be really patriotic freaks as well? It will make talking to the media better after he's caught (assuming its a male).

As pointed out in relation to the Buchanan quote at the outset Africa hasn't exactly moved on from the two centuries of European occupation and exploitation. Hell South Africa was essentially nazified up until 1990's.

Aborigines where indigenous to the land so they are a different story.
