I hate the fact that law-abiding people who spent money, effort and TIME going thru immigration hoops are being lumped in with law breakers.

Its been the same on Sky news today, as well as CNN - totally sucks.

Yup, we're certainly being misrepresented on the national level.

not surprising. if they separated legal from illegal it won't sound so threatening. there's strength in numbers....

Unfortunately from a PR standpoint, its quite likely that any 'tightened' legislation against immigrants will likely negatively impact a lot of legal folks too, who have nothing to do with these people.

Why don't we start calling them "squatters"? Isn't that the proper term for folks who simply walk in, settle down, and imagine they have the right to trespass?

It never occurred to me that the protesters were not "immigrants" until it was pointed out in another thread. We here are immigrants, applying for the many types of visas available to those who want immigrant status. An "illegal immigrant," it seems to me, would be someone who was denied a visa but came anyway.

If squatters want to claim they're "only here to work," and proudly announce they've been doing it for decades, why haven't they applied for an immigrant work visa?

Note the titles of the articles Dobbs refers to. The word 'illegal' is never used.

This kind of media coverage is what I fear will create a public backlash against anyone not American born.

I'm glad Dobbs is making a distinction between legal and illegal. But then his concern seems to be that there are actually connections between the dormant labor movement and the so-called immigrant movement. Of course Dobbs overlooks that the differences in wages in industries such as meatpacking have a host of reasons, most of which have something to do with employers moving to away from their city locations into the countryside in order to get rid of their "radical" workforce demanding fair and living wages. But this strategy will eventually backfire...
