Buying airline tickets in Peru

My fiancee in Lima just found out that she can buy a one-way ticket to the

USA after her interview for about 1/2 the price that I can from the USA.

Now Im thinking that she can buy mine too if I western union her the money.

Does anyone have experience saving money in this way? BTW, one way

tickets bought from the USA are highway robbery. I told the American

Airlines agent if I would just buy a around trip ticket for her and just not

use the return and he told me that was fraud and I could be arrested.

After he told me that, the conversation took a bad turn. I was not very

happy. It was after this conversation when we decided to look at

prices from Peru.

Hi! I don't know what that guy was talking about. You can not be arrested for not using your return flight.

Your plan sounds good. When I was in Brazil it was much cheaper ($100-$200 USD) to buy tickets on the Brazilian site from Varig Arlines than on their USA site. I tried to purchase them online but couldn't since my credit card was from the US. I ended up reserving the tickets online and paying for them in cash at the airport. I traveled a lot and saved a lot of $ doing this.

I've Western-Union'ed money to Trinidad. Cost about $22, and was pretty easy. My credit cards would not work on their web site because their web site has had SERIOUS security issues (so I'd recommend not using it).

Continental Airlines might be better for a one-way, if available in your area. My fiancee has a one-way first class ticket for the same price a round-trip economy would have cost.

And no, you won't get arrested for not using the return leg. People do it all the time.

I think most airline agents dont know too much about what there talking about, other than whats on the screen. I have gotten differing stories on policy issues from differing agents when it comes to buying tickets. urggggg!!!! Planning to do the same thing when I bring home my girl. Way to expensive from here......

Dealing with reservation agents drive me insane. You can call one and get a price, then call back in 5 minutes and they will give you another price.

I've tried booking on LAN though American Advantage using my air miles and they have told me each time... sorry no seats available using your miles for those dates, but we have seats available on American. Of course you do, as you want me on your airline not the better service, LAN

You definately cannot be arrested for not using a return flight ticket.....

When I came here I bought a round trip ticket and just never used the the second one. I used to work in travel agencies in Peru and never heard about anybody being arrested for buying RT tickets and not use the return one. She was obviously lying to you.
