What do you mean about people in US? NVC handles cases for the consulates abroad, is the spouse in the USA? Are you asking about a police cert from the USA or the foreign country?

IF you are asking about "USA" police cert for a period of time that a foreign citizen may have been in the USA, there is NO police cert from the USA, this is taken care of automatically by USCIS, NVC, and Consulate when they do name checks.

Note: Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain any police certificates covering their residence in the U.S.

I mean that Police ceritificate from vietnam. I read some thread in this forum i must have my wife"s police certificate for sending to NVC . Some say i do not need it untill for interview. Please let me know if somebody already done this . Thank you

You will need Police Certificate (Phieu Ly Lich Tu Phap) for your wife when you turn in your DS-230 package as HCMC just switched to Appointment Post recently. Also, you're probably one of the first Vietnam VJ to go through this change. I had called NVC, and they confirm that HCMC just changes to Appointment Post.

I already have my wife to apply for Police Certificate. It takes about 3 weeks to get and costs about 8 bucks at the local provincial justice department. I'll have her translate it as well as her birth certificate and send them to me in preparation of the DS-230. Please fill in your timeline as I'll follow your case since you're ahead of me. On my experience, they asked me a copy to send it to NVC together w/ the ds230. and later asked for the original in the interview
