We use spray veggie oil or Pam, butter, or whatever calls for the recipe really.

teflon can be dangerous if it starts flaking... your body can't digest teflon and it works kind of like a poison on you somehow. (I'm too lazy to look it up and can't remember exactly what it did)

Your right Faith and if you get it very hot and it gives off smoke it is toxic smoke before you add your foods. Newer products and not allowing the pans not to smoke is supposed to be fine now. I keep one nonstick for cooking eggs and omlets. I bought some Emerilware from HSN.com 3 yrs back and love it but it is not non stick.

FDA, or whoever, said Teflon is ok, and especially if there is food in the pan the toxic gas or whatever it is won't hurt you. But don't let it flake. And don't use metal on it.

I recently saw a review in Cook's Illustrated saying that T-Fal's Jamie Oliver line was very good. And Wolfgang Puck's was good and less expensive. They also like Farberware. I think you can probably find those in Wally World.

Gasp! The one teflon pan I own has a scratch that is deep enough to see the metal.

Since the fiance is not here, I am in agreement with mercuryroad's culinary input.

We have a cast iron store not too far from the house...I love cooking with cast iron. This store sells pre seasoned cast iron too, which is nice. Other than that...18/10 gauge stainless steel cookware can be bought at wally world for a reasonable price. Although...if I was given a choice of anything...it would be Calphalon. :)
