Yes photocopies should be certified copies.

Would you mind to post the official source for this info?

I've a certified copy of the birth certificate, and I plan to just photocopy without certify it for my DS-230 package. If indeed the photocopy also needs to be notorized, I'll just go ahead and send NVC two certified copies, instead of a certified copy of an already certified copy of a birth certificate.

This is all I see at state.gov site: "In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents."

I was told that you have to send either originals or certified copies by the NVC on two seperate occassions over hte past 2 weeks. As for the passport copies, no, they do not have to be certified. I'm just made copies of the copies I had of his passport from when I sent it to USCIS:)

And also case# on each page of the documents.

I was talking to my husband about this the other day. I thought that we should write the case number on the back of the documents but he said it should be on the front of the documents (top right hand corner or something like that). I was afraid though that the NVC would not like us writing on the face of the documents. Where did you write your case number, Dani?

Every documents that were more then one page I staple and write case number in black ink on the front right top side.

I know, I might gonna need "some" of the documents again for something else and I will have my case#, but who cares, better be on safe side for now. :P And yes, NVC also told me is "highly recomended" to write the number. For youe convenience you can call and ask.

you need to sent originals or certified copies which come from official agent (courts, hall of records, ect...) not photocopies for this part. but they also want a set of photocopies to be includes with the packet. as in the instructions for the I-130 it is a good idea to make a complete copy of the packet sent to (uscis the first time)NVC. so my plan when the time comes and that should be shortly, is to make 2 complete copies of all originals and certified copies sent to nvc, one for them and one for me as well as any other documentation I send as insurance if they say I am missing anything.

it is all listed in the link above.
