People actually like Alabama? o_O

I've only ever heard terrible things about it and stayed away... :(

I certainly hope that is a joke. Of course people like Alabama.....why else would people live here? I'm sure there are people who enjoy living in every single state.

Unfortunately I don't think he is kidding. Alabama has gotten a bum rap, stemming from things that happened there during the civil rights movement and because of other reasons(even if false), thinking everyone there are rednecks, bad economy, etc. I used to think of it negatively too until my friend moved there and we started visiting. I am now an Alabama lover. I also think economically AL has grown a lot and people still don't realize it. Even the ex-racist Governer Wallace(who is one cause of why ppl disliked AL), he has a good ending that included apologizing for his racist ways and doing things to make up for it. No one ever hears that story, I didn't even know about it until recently. But I am sorry that I also only had negative views until I went there.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

I have to agree. This attitude applies to most of the South, not just Alabama. I am from the South and I've learned it is perfectly acceptable and politically correct to be prejudice based on latitude. People who are ignorant enough to dismiss an entire region without ever having visited or even knowing actual factual information about the place consider the people from that region to be the ignorant ones. It is probably the most acceptable prejudice in the US. I even had someone tell me that if I had spoken with a heavy Southern accent, I would not have been hired for my job. I have a friend who does speak with a heavy Southern accent. After her first session at her new church in Boston, she introduced herself to the pastor. Upon hearing her accent, he said, "We don't tolerate any racism here." The irony of it! LOL. She was devastated, though, that her pastor assumed she was racist. It's hard sometimes to just laugh about it, but ultimately, that's the only thing you can do. It's okay, though. It makes us the "best-kept secret."

Yep yep. There's nothing like being told at a large University that you need to change the way you speak to sound "professional." We actually had an advisor come into an engineering class and tell us that "southern accents" make some people think you're unintelligent, so try to tone it down. I refuse to do so, as the people who would be so judgemental are the stupid ones.

As far as Foley goes, it's a great town. You are around the corner from the beach, but things won't be as "touristy" as Gulf Shores. Foley also has a large factory outlet mall. You're not too far from New Orleans. Nashville is only about 6 hours away.

One thing that you have to consider is the weather. Very long, hot, humid summers that don't seem to end. Also, are you prepared to deal with hurricanes? Foley is close enough to the coast, that you will probably have to evacuate at one point or another.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

In a modest town where honest people dwell

--July 22---------Sent I-129F packet

--July 27---------Petition received

--August 28------NOA1 issued

--August 31------Arrived in Terrace after lots of flight delays to spend Lindsay's birthday with her

--October 10-----Completed address change online

--January 25-----NOA2 received via USCIS Case Status Online
