That was very educational. I'm not being sarcastic. I learned something new and I love learning new things.

Having read over the two different styles, I'd have to say that I predominately use the European style, even though I am a natural-born American. I might use the American style sometimes (although I can't remember when, to be precise), depending on what I'm eating at the time. Different types of food generally require different methods to eat them.

My great-grandmother on my father's side was British (from England) and she may have taught my grandmother to use the European style. If she did, then it would stand to reason that my grandmother taught my father the very same thing and he would be where I learned it from. On the other hand, it could just be that I'm an impatient ####### and I find the European style more expedient. Whatever the case, I'd probably give off the impression that I was a "British Spy" instead of an American citizen. ;)

I have never thought about it much, but I am an American that does it American style. Imagine that!

My mother had a hard enough time getting me not to grip the fork in my right hand like a club. I must have been 8 or so before I finally gave in to her way.

My beloved Joy is here, married and pregnant!

Hmmmm I eat european style..and I'm left handed..which means..that if everyone in my family was eating european style(and presumably they were) than they should have been keeping their forks and knives in the same hands..why the hell was I ALWAYS being bumped!?!? sigh..the hard life of a dining south paw.. :crying: oh wait..I was the one doing the bumping I suppose  hehe
