I called NVC on Tuesday, March 18th and they received my petition that day. I just called them now and they sent the petition to Montreal yesterday. I’m sooo excited!

Anyone know how to track it from NVC to MTL??

As some of you may have read, I got the wrong Police check for sure! I called Ottawa Police again this morning and explained in great detail of what I needed. The guy said that the only other one that he can possibly think that I might need is the one that checks for sexual related crimes and other stuff in Canada. Guys… is that what I need? Before I go back and spend more money, I wanna make sure that I am getting the right one. lol

Congrats for being on the way to Montreal, it won't take you long now.

Sorry can't remember if there is a way to track after going to Montreal or not.

Don't know about your police certificate issue either - I just went to my local RCMP office and told them that I needed a Canada wide name check for immigration to the US and I paid my $30.00, filed out the sheet and a few minutes later she handed me my paper.

There is a way to check it, there is a thread somewhere in the CR1/IR1 forum about it - however it is vague as all you can see, for instance, is that a package was sent from NVC to Montreal on March 20th. Could be 1 file could be 20 and no way to know if yours is in the group!

As for the police certificate, I think the Ottawa police guy is just making this up as he goes along. For my Husband, he just went to the Calgary Police Service and asked for a Canada wide name check.

Are you sure you have the wrong police check? Maybe you could scan it and block out the personal info and post it so that those in your area can have a look and see if it is what they received.

Mine says Criminal Records check (the green form) no finger prints needed. What colour was yours? From reading other posts seems like the right check is supposed to be a white form.

I’m pretty sure that I have the wrong one. I filled out the form with my information and the lady searched the database. She then check and stamped the box saying: This is to confirm that no criminal convictions nor outstanding charges have been found in the Canadian National Repository of Criminal Records as a result of a search based on the above name and date of birth. The search has not been confirmed by fingerprints.

The part that makes me think I got the wrong one is on the back it states: This search does not cover the following areas: Summary convictions, pardons, discharges, information contained in local police databases.

I’ll try to scan it. I’m at work and can’t figure out how to use their scanner. LOL I’ll try to do it tonight.

My Husband's was just a letter on Police letterhead stating that they had done a Canada wide name check etc etc. I believe there is a disclaimer on all of them that some database hasn't been checked, can't remember which one! Oh right, it says if the person is going to be working with children etc that some other search needs to be done.

Ok, found it, it's the CPIC database:

Inside Canada: Applicants who are physically present in Canada should contact their local police service or Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) office regarding criminal record check procedures. Applicants may obtain a certificate of no conviction issued by any Canadian police service so long as it notes that Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or the national criminal records repository was searched using the applicant's name and date of birth. Applicants should ensure that the search includes all names that they have previously used, including maiden names, prior married names, or names used before Canadian naturalization. (Note: Because records checks based on name and date of birth only are sometimes less thorough than those based on fingerprints, U.S. diplomatic offices reserve the right to request that certain applicants obtain fingerprint-based searches from the RCMP.)

I wish there was someone from Ottawa on VJ. Then they can tell me what they got. I called both Police Stations in Ottawa and they seemed clueless as to what I needed even after I explained it to them.

I am looking at a copy of my Criminal Records Check now - I also have a stamp on the bottom left corner and a check mark in the box that says the same as yours. I don't recall the back of the page. It sounds like you have the same paper as I did.

Thanks! That helps.. kind of! Lol

As I mentioned, mine said that it searched the Canadian National Repository of Criminal Records.

Does that mean the national criminal records repository that you mentioned?

I just tracked the NVC shipment to Montreal on 3/19 and it's in Montreal today!! Not delivered yet, but if it's like every other shipment it will be delivered later today. Just keep in mind that Montreal doesn't always "receive" them(open them up and enter them in their system or whatever they do) right away. You can call DOS (dept. of state) 202-663-1225 (1 then 0) next week some time and they can let you know if Montreal received your case yet. Might take a couple weeks though from what I have been reading/seeing in people's timelines.

You'll need your new case# from NVC that starts with MTL2008******.

This is where I found DHL shipments for 3/19:

3/19/08 NVC to embassies list (DHL tracking numbers)

The entire thread is here:

NVC/DHL tracking thread

Like someone already pointed out, it's not 100% for sure that your file is in that package but since you know it was sent on 3/19 chances are fairly good it's yours. It's just fun to see some progress!!

3/5/11 sent LOC paperwork

3/9/11 date of NOA

?/?/?? biometrics appointment

And did they accept your Police check the way it was?
