Some of you may know that I work for a homeless shelter. In fact, on & off, I've been a regular Mother Theresa of the social field for the past 15 years (did I mention I met her, when I was volunteering in Calcutta? A shrivelled walnut of a woman), working with young people leaving care, offenders, the homeless, mentally ill, substance users, etc. (My full resume can currently be reviewed at Monster.com...)

Anyway, my altruism has finally caught up with me and I have discovered I have 'latent TB infection'. I don't have TB per se, just the germs, so I'm not contagious and I'm not going to keel over, spitting blood at any moment. But still, it's a pain. I have to go back to the TB control center next week to start the treatment. Looks like it's a pill every day for 9 months. And maybe no alcohol. (If anyone has first-hand knowledge of this, please let me know. The only info I have is from what the bloke on the phone has told me so far and bits I've read on the net. I'm especially interested in possibly side effects of the medication.) Plus monthly blood tests and liver checks.

In the great scheme of things, it's no big deal. Nevertheless, I am feeling sorry for myself today and so, for a limited period, I am open to sympathetic messages and their ilk. Normal service will resume as soon as possible - the pithy comments, sarky one-liners and tree-hugging fluffiness that you have come to love, nay crave.

Fortuitously, I am having a long weekend as my best mate - actually my Best Man - is in town today with his girlfriend. Haven't seen him for over 2 years, since the wedding, so we're gonna show them all the delights of the Brew City, and then sample some of the beers that made us famous for the rest of the 84 hours. I pick them up at 11.50. Reckon we can be in a bar by noon.

OK, cheers. When I get back to work on Monday, please type quietly. I may be feeling a tad delicate. Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear this. (F)

It does put a damper on your life for a while- but at least it is something that is treatable.

I agree...sorry to hear about this. Don't let it get you down too much.

That sucks, Steve. But you'll get through it! Wish I could join you for some beers, that sounds fantastic. Cheers!

Cheers, Jenn. There's a Pabst with your name on it!

I'm sorry to hear this. (F)

Yeah, could be a lot worse. Pabst for you, or something stronger?

Thanks. I'm thinking vodka straight up - right?

Hard liquor for me baby!

Me, I'm a spirit wuss. One sniff of a bottle top and I'm singing the Little Goblin song.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Sorry to hear the news. My hubby is on month 5 of his treatment. Its not that bad. The pills are inexpensive (like $11 for a 3 month supply). He's hasn't had any problems with side effects. He had a follow up visit after he was on the medication for 1 month. And then he got the all clear to finish the rest of the 9 months, but to come back if he had any concerns.

Also, he was told not to drink alcohol at all. Its the combination of alcohol + the medication that causes liver damage.
