Ok.. I think i'm being really dumb here..

but..

do you have to get the HPV vaccine BEFORE you go to the medical..

or can you have it whilst there?

you could do either or.. you can wait until you're here in the states. At the medical they will give you the option to have it there (the first of the three shots) or to have it later (before your AOS interview). I decided to wait as it's covered by hubby's insurance from work, with just a 20$ co-pay instead of the £120 odd they wanted at the medical. I seem to remember that the nurse noted something on the forms saying needed for AOS but K1 clear/passed something like that.

And technically you only have to have started the course of vaccinations before your AOS interview, I've heard of others that only had the first shot and didn't continue and didn't have any trouble. We figured as it was covered by our insurance here to go ahead and finish the course, no sense starting something just for the benefit of the USCIS/Embassy and not get the benefits of the vaccination too

Hi everyone, my fiance and I have had our NOA1 back in July but are still waiting on the NOA2. We are making plans for the wedding for the end of June next year. My 27th birthday will be on July 7th. Does anyone know if I will need the HPV vaccine or not? I estimate my medical will be around February time or so...? If the vaccine is needed for AOS, can't we just file for AOS on 7th July instead of the day after the wedding? If I can get out of it, I'd be happy!

ive been told several times that you do not need the vaccine until AOS..

if you are to be 27.. you could wait a few days after and then apply for AOS.. that way, you will not need the vaccine as you are 27

Thank you! Yay! I just saved myself money! At the medical, do they try and insist you have the vaccine there and then though? Just for information...

Im not 100% sure but I do know that someone said that it is definitely not needed for K-1... its only needed for AOS so i shouldn't think they can force it upon u.

You can have it over in the US.. its cheaper also. (and u only need to prove to them that youve had the first part of it at your AOS interview)

London will tell you that you need it to adjust status, they don't try to force it upon you, they offer it.

Just wanted to let everyone know, if you are being asked to pay for teh HPV vaccine, call your states local health department and go to a family planning clinic, they offer the Vaccine free of charge to everyone, Don't mention immigration to make certain they aren't going to pull any ####### (although when I mentioned it the nurse still said they shot is always free), I just recommended someone else to do it (she was being charged $160 per shot) and she managed to get it for free.

Beginning Dec. 14 2009, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) no longer requires the HPV vaccine for green card-seeking immigrant females.

Though it will no longer mandate the HPV shot (as well as the Zoster shingles vaccine for immigrants 60 or older), the CDC encourages all immigrants to follow ACIP's recommendations once they've entered the U.S. population.

Though HPV is an extremely common infection, with approximately 6 million U.S. cases annually, most are asymptomatic and resolve on their own. About 10,000 cases a year develop into cervical cancer.

YAY! I am very scared of injections, I hate them!! I have just had my tetnus Jab yesterday and my arm is painfully sore, I cant lift my arm up more than 45 degree's because it is too painful

I had one of my vaccinations done yesterday with my Nurse (the tetnus jab) and I asked her about the HPV jab, and that i needed it for the K-1 Visa. She told me that the jab shouldnt be mandatory because HPV should be got young girls who are not sexually active etc and that most k-1 visa holders who are going to get married with their fiances probably don't fit into that category. So me and her had quite a long discussion about it!

Can anyone confirm that this is true?! I hate needles!! My mum lost my vaccination record for the MMR jab..... Which is a baby jab you should have gotten while you was very young..... and now I have to go get that done again aswel just so I have evidence of having it done! UGH!

My daughter is in the age bracket for the HPV. We had our medical on 21/12 and were told then that she doesn't need it due to the rule change mentioned. However, she now has to have the flu jab. My GP was no longer doing it and nowhere else would do under 18's so I ended up going back there and paying the 20 quid.

Just as well I did as it turns out they lost my blood  and they had to take more. Just as well I had they day off and turned up there. They were VERY apologetic as you imagine.........

The doctor in Dubai forced my Fiancee to have the HPV vaccine despite the fact that it is no longer required. She even took print outs from the US website that stated it was no longer required. Where can I complain that they are not following the LAW? Anyone have a phone number or email I can use to lodge a complaint?
