I've just spent the afternoon researching the HPV vaccine, and I REALLY don't want to get it. Besides which - the thing i'm most angry about is that it's not even a requirement for US citizens to get.

http://www.ncsl.org/programs/health/HPVvaccine.htm#hpvlegis

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HPV_vaccine

They are requiring immigrants to get a vaccine that is unnecessary, in some cases dangerous, and expensive even though it's not required by ANY state. Hawaii and Virginia require the vaccine for girls entering school but there is an opt out clause, which means that effectively it is not required.

So, why oh why at 25 am I required to get this dam@ vaccine.

My son had to have the vaccines to attend university in West Virginia.

Your son had to get the HPV vaccine?

Oops. That's damn embarrassing.

I was at work and read too fast before I posted.

I meant the HEP series.

I'm glad Zach doesn't read here. He'd kill me.

I figured as much, but felt clarification was necessary! But, really, it IS good that your son doens;t read here!

Hehehe :)

Poiteen - I know what you mean - Jeremy was p*ssed because of that very reason - he sent an e-mail to the DOS (he isn't normally that pro-active!) although what he thinks it will do I don't know...

As I understand it you can get away with just having the first injection so... Pity you can't get it done in the US if you are filing for CR-1

I know my son would be upset if I implied he'd had a round of "girly" vaccines!

Jeraly -

Not only that but as far as i can tell, it's not yet required for AOS (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but more than that, if i lived in any one of 48 state I would not need it at all, if i lived in the 2 states i mentioned above I would STILL not have to have it because I am not likely to be entering the 6th grade any time soon. FURTHERMORE even if I was of schoolgoing age I could opt out if I wanted to. This kind of thing gets on my goat. I reckon I'll have to have the first injection, but I am seriously considering not having the 2 follow up injections.

I know - part of me thinks if I am going to have the first one then I might as well get the rest but we'll see how money fares when I move I think...

That's what my OH argues, If i'm going to have the first one, and don't have a reaction, then I'm not likely to have a reaction to the others... doesn't look like I have a choice about the first one anyway.

Do you know if it is needed for AOS?

But Poiteen, you don’t need to do AOS! Why would you bother to waste the money on the two further shots if you don’t need or want them?

This may be one to ask at your interview – do CR1/IR1 wives under 27 need to complete the course when they get over to America?
