Hiya'll

Well, step one is done.. Petition approved and docs sent from the embassy to fill out. Now I keep on reading that its best to print them but they filled out some stuff for me, actually only one thing, under 8. Other Surnames Used, they filled out a number and highlighted it. Does this mean I should use those forms??

Also, I have to arrange police reports for every country where I lived longer then 12 months. One of the countries was Belgium and they sent me a nice letter with instructions on how to get that. The country I live currently, the Netherlands, is also no problem. The other two were the Maldives and the United States (!). Do I really have to get one for the States? Cuz I would get that via the embassy anyway... And the Maldives?? How on earth??????? I checked the internet and there is really NOTHING in the Netherlands that represents the Maldives. Do you think they really need it or do they have a list of countries of which they know its pretty much impossible? Not that I wouldn't like going there to pick one up but its kinda expensive... ^_^

Then, last but not least... the I-134, the support thing, do we really need this? How much money do you need to have yourself before that needs to be filled out? Cuz it says its needed when I need to be supported, if I can prove I can support myself its not needed... How do I know what's enough??

Anyway, any insight would be great

Thanks

Quirine

I would use the forms the consulate sent you. If you are unsure then call and ask them.

You need a police certificate for every country you have lived in for at least 6 months since the age of 16, not 12 months.

You do not need a police certificate for the US, they will do a background check.

For the Maldives, this is what they say:

Police Records

Available. Maldivian nationals may obtain police records from the Ministry of Public Safety, Male, Maldives. Foreign nationals may obtain police records from the Department of External Affairs.

The I-134 is needed unless it is explicitly stated in the Packet 3 that it is not. There are poverty guidelines that the USC has to meet in order to sponsor the beneficiary. If the USC does not meet the requirements for their household then they can get a cosponsor (USC or LPR, does not have to be a family member) that meets the requirements or use sufficient liquid asstes to meet the level.

The poverty guidelines can be found here.

To prove income the sponsor will have to provide tax returns and W2's or tax transcripts either for the past year or the past 3 years (depends on the consulate), letter of employment, paystubs, etc.

Last but not least, could you :time: here: http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=37910

I know about the time line.... Am trying to remember when we really started etc.. etc.. Will do it soon.. :-)

In the papers I got it said 12 months for where I lived.. That scares me cuz suddenly I have about 3 countries more to do...

Do you know what they mean with department of External Affairs?? Do I really have to try to contact somebody in the Maldives?? Out of experience (2,5 years) its not the most efficient government to work with...

Well, if what you have says 12 months, then go ahead with that.

I am guessing the Dept of External Affairs, I am guessing you can probably get more information on that either from the Maldives embassy/consulate where you live, or, maybe the US consulate can help you with that.
