I-485 Noa???

Hi,I would like to know what things can be done with the

I-485 receipt, examples are:

-change my ss to married name

-obtain a california ID

-get a drivers permit

etc.

what can be achieved??

Nothing, the receipt just tells you that USCIS received the case, nothing more.

SSA will not issue a SSN unless you present an EAD or Green-card.

Most DMV will not issue a driver's license or permit to a person without a SSN.

Dont worry about changing name on the card until after having proof or work authorization from USCIS, that is EAD or green-card.

Here is CA DMV list of what they will accept as evidence of legal presence in order for them to issue a permit or license.

I was able to obtain a State ID and driver's license with the receipt. My SSN was already in my married name, so I didn't need it for that. Can't think of anything else where it came in useful.... other than when I needed an emergency AP.

Keep in mind the OP is in California, and you are in Florida.

State ID, and State DMV are not a Nationaly regulated thing, every state has different requirements, what may work in Florida may not work in California.

We live in NY, and my wife had to wait for EAD or Green-card before she could file for a state ID or drivers permission.

u can obtain a california ID & driver lisence with i 485 but not SSN

u can obtain a california ID & driver lisence with i 485 but not SSN

California ID/drivers license requires EAD or GC. They're not interested in receipts or I-94.
